Greenlight: Genetics

Ok, some of you folks might remember her from some of the WIPs I posted earlier. But the premise? Well that’s going take a little explaining, so please bear with me…

A very long, long… long time ago- back when a lot of people still looked at the internet with an iota of optimism, & social media hadn’t completely corroded the brains of older generations, I stumbled upon a kind of ridiculous “blog post.” I entirely forget how I stumbled upon it, but it was this cartoonishly chauvinistic thing by like this proto-manosphere edgelord guy.

Broken down into these ‘red light’ bulletpoints, this jerk thought he was ‘warning’ guys about the things to avoid in a woman. Telltale signs she could potentially put on weight! Oh no. Oh god, the horror. /s

Obviously, it stuck with someone like myself all these years for polar opposite reasons. I tried looking it up before starting this (not very hard) but no luck. It’s long gone. But I’ve always had this kind of idea to take this terrible blogpost & flip it on its head a bit. At least make something (ok, maybe still a little trashy, but certainly) a lot less fatphobic. And so I present this four part series of “Greenlights.” But really it’s more of just a framing device for a cute girl’s gain. And here’s part one.

Originally, I set out trying to do this sequence in a different style than my usual. But it being a sequence served to be a little too ambitious to do like that. I had intended on tightening up the colors & paint it up a lot more, but at the same time? I was actually really happy with how the base sketches all turned out, especially in the expressions. So I decided screw it, & just went with coloring them & keeping things a little looser.

The plan is to post each of the four daily, so keep checking back. Attached is a full res, & a version without the text box at the bottom

She turned out as cute as I was hoping she would. I think the expressions really sell a lot of personality.

seems like a really fun and interesting concept! and the lead girl here's probably the most adorable one yet - needless to say this's piqued my interest, eager to see what her genes have in store... probably won't be too kind to her other jeans 😉
