Here's a very rough glimpse of another game idea. The basic concept is a vertical platformer where you are generally progressing upward through a giant tower. For gameplay I have in mind something inspired by old school Kid Icarus, but with more advanced mechanics, and a giant world to explore metroidvania style.
Ironically, the mock up doesn't show any vertical platforming elements. My idea is this is at the beginning where you are walking up to the tower. There would still be some horizontal sections, but it's mostly about going up. Therefore, I imagine the character would have a nice springy jump that could be upgraded to progressively jump higher and access the higher chambers of the tower.
Anyway, that's the basic premise. I have an aesthetic in mind that I have not quite captured. I realize I'll need a lot more time to properly flesh out this idea, but I think it could be a real winner if I can capture my vision. Right now, I have a real game I have to finish before I can properly develop new ideas like this. However, you have to start somewhere. I do like the character, but I need a lot more time to develop decent tiles.
The sketches are some concepts for the massive tower structure the game takes place in. My hand sketches tend to be much more organic and surreal than my pixel style. I think the aesthetic in the game would be much more crisp, combining classic greek architecture with futuristic elements.
