Thyrian Defenders - 70

Hey folks! It's been another productive week in the Thyrian universe. As with last week, I've spent much of my time working on sound effects. Most of the SFX are being created by some lads in the UK, however, I've created many on my own and have built entirely new sounds by editing some of their work. As with my music production I use Logic for that. I've learned a lot in the process and feel I could possibly create my own SFX from scratch on a future project.

In addition to the sound work I've been chipping away on some graphic stuff. The first 2 images show a vector version of the logo. This will be used for marketing purposes, as pixel art doesn't always translate so well into all forms of media. For example, the pixel art  turns blurry in the small banners used on steam. Besides, the polished vector graphics can possibly appeal to a wider audience. Fun fact, vector graphics used to be my specialty when I was doing graphic design.

The final image is a rough WIP of the intro scene to planet Crypto. I'm working off the thumbnail reference, which we use for the level preview in the briefing menu. Not much to see now, but there will eventually be some baddies flying around and the environment will have some animations when it's all done.

As usual, we've been deep in testing. I officially beat the game on an organic play through just recently. Now, I have to try and beat all the higher difficulty modes.

Beta version coming for a holiday surprise! At least that's the goal. We want to start with a somewhat small dedicated group of about 20 testers, so we don't get overwhelmed. You patrons will get the first chance to join. We're looking for dedicated players who will test on a regular basis and supply constructive feedback. If you love shmups, or are just enthusiastic about game development, make sure you stay tuned for the opening announcement.

Sound design is good fun once you get into the workflow, but also frustrating when you get stuck on a sound for hours. Society rewards specialization, but exploration of many disciplines brings greater truth and meaning to life. It's a balancing act: keeping your strengths sharp while growing in new directions. I'm excited and nervous about releasing TD to the world. Whatever happens, I'm eager to move on with the experience gained.

Ohh, making SFX must be fun πŸ™‚ You're at a point where you don't just make pixel art and you even go back to good old vector design! A true Jack-of-all-trades! πŸ‘Œ I'm excited to finally play a version of TD, you guys clearly have been spending an extensive amount of time on it. Looking forward to it! πŸ™
