Added 2020-11-06 15:18:20 +0000 UTCHeya, back with some high flyin' space adventure! We've been hard at work trying to get this polished up into a real game.
In this update I'm sharing some new details on how the story will be integrated into the game. While story is not essential for shmups, a rich setting and characters can bring a lot to the experience. Furthermore, we're not going for anything too deep with the overall plot, but rather focusing on characterization and world building. But who knows? As I develop the story an intriguing plot twist may develop.
The first time you play each level you will be treated to a short atmospheric cinematic, as shown in the first slide. After that there will be a dialogue scene using the level assets, which are illustrated in slides 2 and 3. There will also be one of these dialogue scenes presented upon completing each level, making a total of at least 20 of them throughout the game. Also, there will be a final cinematic before the credits roll.
Since we don't want to annoy the player with repeating the story scenes every time they play a level, they will only be shown once in mission mode. However, there will be a media section in the options where they will unlock as you progress, and can be replayed at your choosing.
In addition to regular testing and bug fixing, I've been fine tuning a lot of SFX. The sound palette is nearly filled out, and really brings a lot of excitement to the action. I'll have to record a new video soon to share the progress. Or better yet, we finally get the beta out there!
