Thyrian Defenders - 62

Hey folks! In this update I want to share some recent revisions we've been making to the VR mode. This is an additional mode with procedurally generated levels. Previously we had a time limit and the challenge was to destroy enough enemies in the given time. The randomness of each play through made success or failure feel arbitrary and it just wasn't fun. Therefore, we decided to drop the time limit and make the enemies progressively become stronger and faster so it eventually becomes impossible to survive. This makes it more like a survival mode, but it's based on score rather than time so you are pressured to constantly kill things and not just cower in the corner.

The first couple animations show revised UI concepts. To make score chasing a little more engaging we're adding 3 target score tiers represented by stars. The summary will show the score tally up before the stars pop. The Kill meter is at the top of the screen during gameplay. This fills as you rack up the kills and shows when you score enough to get a star. I realize the progress of the meter is not synced with the star jumping animation in this example. I'm just showing off the whole meter and the concept for the animation at the same time. I'm sure you get it.

The gameplay video shows a short glimpse of some action with the new system. The kill meter is still the old version in the video and you can see I have it completely filled to the 3rd star so the projectiles are quite fast and powerful at this point. Good time to use the focus ability and slow down baddies.

It's going to take a little more balancing but I think this mode will supply endless thrills!
