I’m the Meal

[ Prologue ]

I applied to become food at a prestigious restaurant.

There were so many applicants. Of course—it's a four-star restaurant, so naturally, it drew a crowd.

After being guided inside, I entered the physical examination room.

Here, they check for all sorts of health conditions. This restaurant, in particular, is famous for valuing skin condition and natural scent.

Well… I can handle my skin, no problem.

I passed all the standard tests without issue. Now, only the scent evaluation remained.

The inspector comes close and assesses your body odor with their nose… most applicants fail at this stage. Key points are the nape of the neck, armpits, and lower areas.

I stripped off all my clothes and waited for my turn.

I was trembling, embarrassed, and yet strangely aroused—my face flushed all over.

The inspector approached and brought their face close to my armpit. Feeling their breath sent shivers through every hair on my body. Then, they moved to my lower region. I shut my eyes tightly in embarrassment.

That’s when I felt a wet, unfamiliar sensation.

Huh? Wait… I thought they were just smelling… are they tasting too? I wasn’t told about that…

The examination ended, and I waited in the lounge for the results.

My initial confidence had vanished, replaced by nothing but worry about failing.

If I didn’t pass, I’d have to go to a lower-tier restaurant.

Three-star, two-star, one-star… and if I fell all the way to the no-star place, I’d probably cry.

That place is mostly for rude, unrefined predators. Regardless of their job or appearance… all sorts of perverse acts run rampant.

Spitting out food is standard, and sometimes they don’t fully digest before excreting it. (Undigested excretion is truly horrifying.)

The most terrible case was last year’s “dog-food incident.” They packaged a meal for takeout and tossed it into a doghouse at someone’s home. Ugh—chills just thinking about it…

The bell rang for the list of successful applicants.

Ah… my name was called. I passed.

I felt like I could fly with joy, but relief hit immediately, and my strength drained away.

Out of 150 applicants, only seven were selected.

Passing doesn’t mean we become the dish immediately.

To become proper fare worthy of the restaurant’s reputation, we undergo regular exercise and dietary management. We’re also trained on dialogue to excite predators and the posture to adopt when being swallowed.

During this process, I made new friends.
