Financials Screen

At its core, Honcho is a detailed simulation that captures the intricacies of operating, maintaining and upgrading a kei truck. From the meticulous upkeep required to keep your engine running smoothly, to the ambition of finding the next upgrade. Every component suffers damage, rust and grime. Every part of the truck has stats that affect it in some way.

This much has been made clear already - or I'd hope it has. As we've show cased a lot of the deep interaction and moment to moment gameplay. But why exactly does the player care about their truck? And what means do they have available to them to facilitate this care? How do they go about making a "kei truck of legend"?

Sure, they'll be covering maintenance costs during the early game. Delivering goods and searching the world for that next Kusahiro, hoping to get that next upgrade. It's only after the player has built up their business, invested in some vending machine spots, will they really be able to fund a fleet of legendary vehicles. Building an empire is an inviting challenge, but managing the flow of capital within one should be easy. Thus, the financials screen is born.

Daily Breakdown, Income Statement & Account Balance

This is my favourite aspect of the Financials tab, so I put it at the very start. The first item is the Daily Breakdown tab. Inside this is a 10 day line graph that records the players Daily Earnings (red) and Lifetime Earnings (blue). Data recorded covers the last 10 day period, with the right-most side showing the most recent day. Line goes up (hopefully)!

Players can select each day on the grid to give them an overview of that days trades (this updates the Revenue and Outgoings tabs to the right). I love line charts, so it's cool to have this kind of financial information available to the player. Hopefully I can reuse this format for car performance down the line.

Income Statement shows the selected day's revenue, expenses and profit. Fairly self-explanatory.

Account Balance shows the player's total money at hand.

Revenue & Outgoings

Anytime the player spends money, it's recorded in the Outgoings section for them to review. Anytime the player receives money, it's recorded in the Revenue section. This should help players better understand what's making them good money, and what's costing them.

Accounts Payable (Debts)

I had originally planned to work on this aspect further along in development, but the need to manage issues like traffic violations and fuel theft meant implementing the feature sooner.

Debts are accumulated through the following.

More to be added as features grow.

Debts need to be cleared in a timely manner, otherwise they may find themselves the victim of vandalisms or even repossessions.
