A Lot of People Who Don’t Believe in Elections Are Running for Election

OA1081 - We're taking a broad survey of the 2024 elections, starting with the many, many 2020 election deniers who are still in--and seeking--public office. How many of these people are still around, and how many are up for re-election? What kinds of threats to democracy are still built into the system and how could we do better? What would real reform look like, and what is it going to take to get there?

Check out the OA Linktree for all the places to go and things to do!

I’m from the Pacific Northwest originally! And I totally agree with you… 💗

Thanks for the input. I hope Texas ends Cruz's tenure in the Senate.

Watch out in Maine! There are tons of awesome people there, but like PNW there’s strongholds waving the rebel or Nazi flags. Gotta be careful.

This hasn’t had nearly enough coverage, imo, but I’m so grateful!!

I love this detail!

I would LOVE to hear an episode on Tina Peters, with some focus on how she wound up doing podcasts from her closet selling cat litter as a last chance grift before her trial. https://annelandmanblog.com/2023/12/tina-peters-reduced-to-advertising-kitty-litter-on-her-internet-tv-show/

A ton of important information, very succinctly delivered. Let us all calmly take to the streets. Thank you Matt and Thomas! Matt, you may need to pivot to mostly criminal law? The immigration/crimigration field would take a huge blow if you were less active/visible ofc And now that I’ve voted early in my current home state of AZ (pity me), I will soon be retreating permanently to the woods of Maine.

Wow, this episode was sobering. It's a gut punch to hear Matt talk about how serious this election is for his job and clients. It's great to know Poland managed to turn things around though, I had somehow missed that. I guess there's hope yet.

I work in polling. It is a part time job I do because the ar$e is falling out of the IT sector and i have health problems. Been an eye-opener. The talk about polling younger people is bullshugar depending on industry standards and regulations. We use random digit dialling and gave quotas for each age - not age group. When calling, we expressly ask for 15 - 32 year olds if available or possible schedules. Another vital piece of information that nobody talks about is that women are RARELY available to poll. They are always caring for childrem or working and too busy, busier than men to participate. Look it up if you don't believe me. If your polling methods are appropriately adjusted, you close the poll by eliminating by age, not age group and you ensure you have a wide cross section of well-defined demograophics. From my limited experience, certain age +/or gender quotas fill faster but a supervisor closes an age+/or genders as they fill to focus our calls on all others and reinstates them to fill that quota.

Professor Heather Cox Richardson has spoken strongly about not listening to polling results. The polls are unreliable and too easily manipulated to create apathy & discourage voting.

It’s Schrödinger’s Ballot Box.

P.S. Matt! Regarding the N.Carolina AG race. Well, this is a story about how one decision can completely destroy your career. Jeff Jackson, the dem up by 7, is known for being the 'tiktok house rep' that sadly.due to gerrymandering, his district no longer exist. Therefore, he decided to run for A.G., He is well known for posting on TikTok about twice a month, giving basic and informative descriptions of what was currently going on in Congress. Now he was very well received, people liked that there were members of Congress reaching out through social media.... and then unfortunately, for some unknown fucking reason, Jeff decided to sign on to the bill that would ban TikTok. Now, when he posts, his comment sections are full of vitriol and hate . In conclusion, if he does not win as attorney general, it's more than likely going to be due to young voters either voting against him, or just not voting at all.

Matt, tell Thomas things are different here in Tx this time for ONE reason: Colin is a straight up centrist. As opposed to Beto, the last person to run against Cancun Cruz, who leans a lot more left. This state could not handle a leftist senator, but a moderate? Most Texans don't have a problem getting behind that.
