This seems like an interesting thing to examine: 'Haley Voters for Harris' pledge to fight on after Nikki Haley says cease and desist https://www.npr.org/2024/07/23/g-s1-12998/haley-voters-for-harris-cease-desist-2024-election

Probably a real person

Matt, what is your most gratifying or obscure motion in court, and would you trade it for a successful Batson challenge? I suggested a Batson to my lawyer in my own case, and the judge agreed. Holy moly, did he almost heel-click when the judge sustained.

I'm sitting by my father's hospital bed and we just saw that Lou Dobbs died. My father hated him because he trusted him on CNN and then saw him for what he was and felt betrayed. So my father's question is, "Is Dobbs's estate on the hook for any Dominion lawsuit money or did dying protect his money?"

And now Schumer too, and Pelosi making moves behind the scenes with Jeffries. Seems like their teams are all leaking this now after Biden's COVID diagnosis because he refused to even discuss it with them over the weekend.

Chris Conley

How about the US Navy exonerating the black sailors charged in the Port Chicago debacle.

Tara Churchill

I get your frustration. The US seems to consistently hold itself and it's allies above the law. Even among leftists, despite our discussions about decoloniality and our criticisms of white supremacy and European and U.S. exceptionalism, we continue to believe that this country will lead global liberation. However, in reality, liberation movements have typically been spearheaded by the most oppressed individuals. Tbh, I don't carry much hope for our government to take action on this. We keep begging politicians to do something and it has led to nothing. We're all too comfortable in our own privilege that we discourage ourselves from taking any amount of risk. People need to get up and do something. I certainly don't have all the answers but that's just what's on my mind. My family has lost a lot but I still have hope.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!?

No name

I know this topic is impossible to discuss without backlash, but for me the only issue I’m putting energy into right now is for Palestinian suffering to end. Like, is there such a thing as a war crime in US law? Wasn’t there a law against giving weapons to countries that do this stuff? What is the legal obligation to military allies? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just losing my mind watching this unfold for 9 months wondering how all this can be possible.

Mediocre Mr. Micah

Almost forgot. Biden’s Supreme Court reform plan. Thoughts from Matt on this?

Some short topics to cover 1) Recusal of Judge Glanville in YSL 2) recusal of replacement judge in YSL trial. 3) A lawyer who practices in the 11th circuit says that they have a 3 strikes rule and that if Canon is wrong on this dismissal ruling and Jack Smith asks for recusal, it’s automatic that she is recused. IS THIS TRUE? (I think the reference is Michael Popok on Meidas). 4) Lots of people saying that Alec Baldwin got off on a ‘technicality’ Could you please set them straight? This seems like it MUST be this way. If the prosecution withholds evidence in a clearly ‘slimy’ way the case Must be dismissed with prejudice if jeopardy has attached. Please explain so I can be armed with good info.

Michael Rops

Bob Menendez, but perhaps that’s better for GG. I’ve seen some headlines but not a lot of breakdown on the trial.

Brendan O'Brien

It feels timely if not necessarily “rapid response” worthy. Was there any point in US history when so many of the Supreme Court’s opinions were made with this level of consequentialist argument making? As in, reaching for tenuous arguments in favor of the outcome the majority wants while blatantly ignoring better precedent that goes against them, all while sounding reasonable to a layperson reader

The dismissal of the documents case and possible steps forward

Jennifer Eckert

I know I'm a bit late bringing this up, but one thing struck me about Alito's letter saying he won't recuse himself that I haven't heard commented on before. His accusation that this is being requested for political reasons seems to acknowledge that his judgment is political and predetermined. This seems like a big change in rhetoric coming from people who usually claim they can't comment on a case they haven't heard and that they're just calling balls and strikes. I'd love to hear some good legal commentary on that.

Should Joe Biden step aside? I saw Adam Schiff called for t Him to pass the torch today. Maybe even have a politics and polls round up segment on this Friday?

Trump NY criminal case - Sentencing was scheduled on July 11th but date has been moved to consider Trump's motion to vacate verdict based on immunity decision How likely is it that this verdict will be vacated under the new Presidential Immunity?

Shad Riley

I think most lawyers seem to think the motion itself is going nowhere, but it seems crazy to me jurors are claiming they had unanimity on two counts and the judge never asked what counts were deadlocked leading potentially to her being tried again on charges a verdict could be reached on. Is this as crazy as it seems, and if it is is there some kind of misconduct here?

ToddTheOdd

Someone recently suggested that judge Cannon should be disbarred. At first I thought it was preposterous because her judgeship is guaranteed absent an impeachment. However it would be professionally embarrassing and a good point of debate during confirmation hearings if/when Trump nominates her for AG. Unfortunately she hasn't stolen client money. Does that mean there's no hope a bar association would take action against her? Are there any examples of past bar actions against sitting judges?

Drew Vogel

I'm sure you guys are sitting on the Karen Read case maybe for Gavel Gavel or a true deep dive, but perhaps some coverage on her recent motion to dismiss two of the counts on the new trial would be in order, I can't make sense of it

ToddTheOdd

I think it would be best to talk about the insanity of judge Cannon's ruling on Monday.
