Thereβs a color theory tip I used in this artwork thatβs crucial for using the right colors: color relativity.
In the final artwork the stem looks green right?
Your mind plays tricks on you, it's actually blue, but it looks green thanks to color relativity, which is the idea that the perception of a color is influenced by the colors surrounding it.
So how did I make the steam look green?
What really sells the 2D look and makes this artwork pop is the lineart setup of the flower. Here's how I did it. π
When I applied a simple outline to the flower it didn't look quite right. It looked too noisy.

I wanted to recreate the look from this artwork, where the outer outline looks stronger than the inner lineart. π
Take a look at the project file to see how I made this artwork.

Increase your camera's focal length to get that flat 2D look. By default it is set to 50 mm which looks too 3Dimensional because of the perspective. I usually use a focal length between 90-150 mm.

Check your artwork in black and white!
If the artwork is readable in grayscale, it will look good with colors too. Before I heard about this trick I felt quite lost when adding colors. I was just experimenting, but I didn't have anything to rely on. Viewing it in black and white helps you focus on the values, making it easier to decide if the colors will work together.
How to do this in Blender? Use the RGB to BW n...

I hope you make awesome creations with this shader.
This video was a beast, I had to step out of my comfort zone to make this one because it has a different pacing and longer than my other videos. It took me 125 hours to finish it, and I was in flow state the entire time no distractions, nothing.
Let me know what you think about this longer format.
Thank you Patrons for your support, you made this possible! π₯°

What really enhances the effect is the lineart. It is set to Divide blend mode which adds a magical glow to the edges.
This shader is completely procedural, meaning you can adjust it to your needs.

I plan to make a tutorial about the crystal material on Patreon.
Here's a lil story about this project:
I discovered a new crystal material so I had to make something to showcase it.
I realized I had an unfinished sword project from a year ago, so it was time to finish it.
When I applied the crystal material to the blade, I fell in love immediately (and literally jumped out of my chair from the excitement π
).
Sooo....

2024-11-28 11:18:58 +0000 UTC View PostMy sister had this idea whether I could recreate this bubbly 3D wallpaper trend popularized by @maddysgraphics but actually in a 3D software (bc it's usually made in Adobe Illustrator).
I liked the idea so I started to experiment, figured it out, and this is what I got. It's not my usual style but I had fun with it nonetheless.
