Deported by an Immigration Court in a Strip Mall

Episode 1015 Part 2 of Azul's story

Folks... I implore you. I beg of you, please listen to this one all the way through. Azul tells us the rest of her story, and talks about where she is now, and it is one of if not the most inspiring, heartwarming things I have ever had the privilege of publishing. Seriously. And please share it. Another massive thanks to Azul, and to Matt, who we are so incredibly lucky to have on the show.

These two episodes were so good! I am so glad that OA is back and better than ever.

Azul, thank you for sharing your story with us ❤️ What happened to you was terrible.

Azul's story is incredible. Thank you so much for sharing. I completely understand why you would not want to live in the United States after this experience. What really hit me hard was hearing about how you are not able to come visit your family here. I literally gasped when you said your tourist visa interview isn't until March, 2025. That is terrible. I know I cannot begin to comprehend how awful this experience was but I grew up with kids who were undocumented in Utah. One of my high school friends is now protected by DACA. She now has a family, a house, and a career. It would personally affect me if she was deported. We aren't close anymore (still FB friends) but if she needed something, I'd help however I could.

Oh man, Thomas. Azul is amazing. I absolutely loved this piece and I want to thank her so much for sharing, teaching, and being vulnerable. I think she is actually my best friend and just doesn't know it yet. I was in tears hearing Matt talk about how great she is...and you are THE most empathetic person Thomas. Home is what was stolen from Azul... you're 💯 percent correct and just so fucking articulate. I just love having you back on OA. And this story just proves that Matt is Lawyer 2.0 ! Cheers -Jas

I listen to a lot of podcasts and these two episodes are among the best I’ve ever heard. I’m loving the new OA, keep it up!

An assistant who works remotely over the internet. Job description can be anything that might be in an assistants job description - taking calls, paperwork, booking appointments, etc. Small companies (i.e. your local plumber or HVAC repair person) often use VAs if they want to have someone handle a lot of the overhead but they aren’t big enough to traditionally employ a full-time office person.

Azul is amazing! Thank you for sharing this!

When I was 7 I came to the US with my family and we overstayed our visa. Growing up I only knew about our status when my oldest sister got married. Fast forward all my sisters got married and became legal, my parents became legal after my oldest sister became a citizen. I was in my 20s and like my sisters they tried to get me arranged married (we’re indian) and like Azule I knew I wasn’t ready. Through some miracle I became legal just after finishing college. This whole episode made me cry cause so much of her story felt familiar

Matt mentioned that if we want to help out there are probably organizations near us for immigration support, but I don't even know what to look up. Where can I find that information?

Azul is an absolute treasure! Thank you so much for sharing her story.

I think it can mean other things as well, but Azul seems to work as an actual assistant, remotely via the Internet.

Ps I haven’t even told my family. Haven’t been to TB in decades. Maybe adding Taco Bell tacos to my bucket list.

This story is so moving. I have a really dumb question: what is a virtual assistant? My guilty pleasure is also Taco Bell.

Early as promised! Thank you Thomas!
