OA703: You Win a Toy Yoda! And 100 Grand!

Today, Liz and Andrew provide an update on the new Republican broadside against Fani Willis in Georgia before breaking down the law around bad April Fool's Day jokes.

This is a paid post on Patreon and was released early for Patrons.

Athens, Georgia local politics has recently had a propensity for influencing state wide politics. Brian Kemp, the governor, is from Athens and has made the good-ole-boy, Go Dawgs charisma part of his brand. So he takes a very personal interest in Athens local politics and University of Georgia political activity. He perceives that it will reflect poorly on him. He’s a very interesting person. I used to go to church with him in a VERY PROGRESSIVE Episcopal church. Gay priest and all.

Note that the Georgia house co-sponsor is Hines, who has publicly feuded with Deborah Gonzalez.

Regarding the written prosecution part of the legislation, I believe that may actually reference a publicly disseminated memorandum by Deborah Gonzalez, the DA in Georgia’s Western Judicial Circuit, in which she listed a number of crimes that she would not prosecute and ordered her employees not to prosecute.

Is it interesting that the more Republican our laws get, the more the laws become magic.

Fame and fortune guaranteed in the state of Tintucky

I was holding out, hoping that sanity would prevail, but it appears not, I've loved the podcast, but will be sending my money elsewhere now

I thought reading out the new patreon name at the end was very tacky. If the podcast is going to continue, I'd like it to be above the personal, behind-the-scenes issues.

The Great State of Denial

My friends connected politically in Georgia tell me that the Senate bill is targeted more at Deborah Gonzalez, a progressive prosecutor in Athens, Georgia, than Fani Willis.

It's probably just that I'm still waking up, but I can't help but have slightly limited sympathies when the prank is coming from a morning radio program. It's kinda just what they do. That aside though, the toy yoda *was* a quality pun.
