---------------------------------------------

The door jiggled around a few times. The inside of the bathroom became lighter as Blake's eyes adjusted to the dim surroundings......just in time to watch a wisp of shadow phase right through the bathroom door. The action seemed rather effortless as Blake held his breath in disbelief. He held up the scythe as if to attack. But this room was small, not to mention he was cornered in this enclosed space; he needed an advantage, but not in here.

Without another thought he used the scythe and pushed the shadow back with the bottom of the staff. He jumped forward and kicked open the door before stepping outside. In the same moment Blake swung the scythe up and out, just as a shadow leapt for him. The way it jumped, it pierced itself directly onto the curved blade, and it dissipated not moments later.

Two more shadows leapt right for him, and jumped about as if to confuse him. Blake planted himself firmly, but then pushed off the ground to catch them first. The one closest to him was surprised, and unprepared for the strike of the blade. While it dissipated the other one charged, but Blake blocking the oncoming attack with the staff.

Another shadow screeched and leaped from Blake's right. He had enough time for a counterattack, swinging his scythe up and sideways. But instead of getting it right down the middle, he only managed to slice off a leg. The creature landed nearby and emitted a horrible crackling screech that made him flinch at the very sound of it. But slowly, it disintegrated.

A fierce screech tore through the air, and Blake spun around. He nearly had the wind knocked out of him as a large dog-like shadow crashed into him, and forced them both to the ground.

It was just like before, Blake pinned down by a dark monster wreathed in gaseous shadow. But this time he had an advantage, and Blake used it to hold up the creature with ease. He tried kicking the creature but to no avail, so instead he pushed his weapon upwards with all his might. Still the shadow stood atop him but now his scythe was forced up against its neck. Blake turned and saw the blade was pointed outwards.

In a moment of impulse Blake pulled himself sideways into a roll, and with one hand he pulled the scythe as hard as he could. His grip suddenly loosed and the weapon flew out of his hand. But by the time he rolled over completely, he observed the shadow that just pinned him dissipating into the air.

His gaze flew back to the scythe, and suddenly he stumbled to his feet while also reaching for his weapon. The moment he made contact with it, he prepared his body, and spun around in a split second with his scythe firmly grasped in both hands.

He was ready this time.
