I really liked the last 2 episodes emotional wise if I remember correctly but yeah I do hope they give a way bigger motive soon that feels like it balances out with the torture instead of just "exploration" but we'll see, cause rn they are lowkey going through absolute hell for not that big of a reason lmao

2023-01-09 19:29:53 +0000 UTCW catchup to watch with the goat but honestly that whole szn didnt make me sad at all but I was extremely disturbed and frustrated and shocked throughout. Hopefully in the movie and s2 mfs actually find something good cuz this show is like torturing yourself for no reason atm

2023-01-09 09:02:10 +0000 UTCYou’re right, Riko definitely can get a pass as for having a reason to come to the abyss even though she literally has no training in terms of fighting to defend herself 😭 I guess she’ll learn self defense the hard way though since Reg can’t always be the only one to clutch up

2022-10-01 09:19:48 +0000 UTCI get what you're saying, but you should make an exception for Riko because when she got revived by that relic the first thing she did as a BABY was to try and crawl to the abyss which is very creepy and now Riko herself is still in the process of trying to figure out weather if its her own desire to go venture into the abyss that constantly calls for her or if she simply wants to find and see her mother. I personally think its both as I have a theory that some being/entity at the bottom of the abyss is somehow aware of Riko's existence which could be very special as the name of the show is literally called "Made In Abyss" and you could technically say that Riko was made in the abyss due to being born there then dying then being revived all in one sequence. Also this being/entity that I'm referring too could possibly be the one that snuck the message in Lyza's package that said "come meet me at the bottom" basically. Obviously this is just a theory and not something you should take as a fact.

2022-10-01 05:59:06 +0000 UTCYeah all of this makes a lot of sense and is a realistic concept with how these people are screwed over. The only thing that prevents me from putting it at a higher rating till I see more, is the story aside from Riko finding Lyza and "curiosity" just doesn't make people diving into the abyss seem realistic enough for me yet. The amount of downsides to going in the abyss itself is beyond insane and while the payoff won't always be as strong as the downsides in stories, I feel like this is one of the rare situations where the payoff is nowhere close to worth all the downsides for any of the characters except those that are literally insane due to curiosity. The curiosity makes sense to an extent but I feel like it shouldn't be so easy for most characters to go to the abyss for just "curiosity" unless you're implying the whole verse is basically suicidal/insane and would risk things worse than death just to see the unknown. This doesn't make it bad ofc but just keeps me from putting it at a level of work that I would consider 8.5+ since the story feels too one sided at the moment of being "dark for the sake of being dark" for me. I 100% get you and anyone else disagreeing though but like I said the only reason I feel this to be the case at least as of S1 is that the terrible things that happen to certain characters don't have a strong enough motive backing them up for why you would put yourself in that position in the first place unlike other darker stories. This will probably change when I see a character diving in the abyss and going through these terrible things have another reason for diving down here other than curiosity like maybe the hopes of reversing a curse or putting an end to other terrible experiments but until then yeah I for sure put it at an 8/10. Above average and the OST being the best part to me for sure!

2022-10-01 05:21:15 +0000 UTCAlright since you still didn't understand what was really going on between Riko and Mitty I'll explain it you. To be fair this entire scene is very enigmatic (difficult to interpret) and I've had a lot discussions with other ppl about it from before where we all came to similar conclusions and this was my interpretation of it: The Curse of the Abyss is probably what caused Riko's nightmares. Mitty's presence is actually what comforted her, if only because she has to dredge up whatever courage she has at that point to communicate to Mitty that everything will be okay. Both Mitty and Riko are unable to cross to the other side (aka "the afterlife"). Note how both are potrayed as almost fetus like beings, evoking some imagery relating to birthing. You could say this is a rebirth after death in that sense, though mitty’s rebirth is postponed for a while. The scene does include a certain line about how all delvers are dreamers or something to that effect, and with how riko and mitty are remarkably similar in their characterisation, this cements some sort of a spiritual parallel that ties them to their desires. This is also one of the other reasons nanachi chooses to join the group. In the end what the scene did most importantly was establish a connection between Riko and Mitty.

2022-10-01 05:11:26 +0000 UTCWhen I started watching Made In Abyss no one told me about the hella sus moments with the kids for this show and only that it was amazing. So if I knew before hand I would be a lot more hesitant to start it, but its a great show regardless and I'm really glad I watched it. Also don't worry most of us cried this episode including myself so you're not the only one, we're all in this together 😂 I have to disagree with you saying that the show is being dark just for the sake of being dark (if I got that right), because the whole point of everything that happened relating to Nanachi & Mitty is that with each layer its going to keep getting worse and worse to the point of unspeakable lengths as you've seen so far. Also, it was already foreshadowed by Ozen that Bondrewd was basically going to be menace which you just recently saw. This also goes to show that despite all the dangers that the abyss has to offer cave raiders can be still be the most cruelest/dangerous within the abyss itself. People know of Bondrewd's inhumane experiments, but its not that simple to stop him its not like you can simply traverse into the 5th layer without nothing happening to you. People have sent many bounty hunters after him only for them to either disappear without a trace of join Bondrewd. This isn't mentioned in the anime so think of this as a "fun" little fact. What happened to Mitty is very a sad yet realistic dark truth and what I mean is that people in real life can have all these dreams and aspiration only for life to screw them over in the blink of an eye cuz I mean look at the children living in war torn countries for example they may also have dreams and aspirations of their own but they could wake up the next day with a bomb landing over their heads ending everything there in an instant. Nanachi understandably so wanted to end her life after Mitty was set free from her suffering, but in the end she choose to live on for Mitty instead (with a little bit of help from Reg) knowing that Mitty would probably be angry with her if Nanachi took her own life and didn't help Reg & Riko who Mitty took a liking to. The thing I love about this episode and this show overall is that even though it's bittersweet there's always a light somewhere in the darkness no matter how faint it is. These kids are very brave to keep pushing forward knowing even more danger and darkness await them in the lower levels and cuz there's no going back now in the sense that they have to keep going forward for their own dreams and aspirations but also for those who have fallen (Mitty) and also carry their dreams and aspirations with them too on their shoulders. An 8/10 is a fair rating for the first season personally for me I gave it a 9+/10. I look forward to your reaction to the movie!
