Dear Dev Diary 10 📖 - Remastered

Hello Crew! A big thanks to the grizzled veterans of the campaign for returning for another tours; and a big welcome to the greenhorns who've just signed up... your contribution is much appreciated! 🤩

Phew... update time is always a hectic one... much file management and keeping on top of correspondence! It looks as though v0.3.1 was well-received - always an enormous relief when dealing with big plot reveals and character development 😅 But enough boasting about past successes... you'll all be wanting to know what I'm up to now!

What I'm Up To Now:

You see how I segued there? Smoother than a Volchak's arse! 😂

So far this month, I've been mainly working on the code, walkthroughs and UI rather than new content - there's a lot to do to prep for that elusive Phase 2! However, that's given me the chance to leave my computer rendering away, remastering the images from the beginning of the game. 

Those - the first Nurse, Kex and Decontamination scenes - look a bit primitive compared to many of the later artwork. At the time, I was working on a very low-spec desktop... rendering in CPU and using photoshop to stitch images and backgrounds together. Ever since you guys helped me buy a better computer and graphics last year, I've been itching to fix these up - but have never had the time.

I do now, and Praise Be! - because as part of the big Phase 1 Wrap, I plan to insert an m/m alternative to Kex in her first corridor scene; and create a more m/m friendly and neutral path in the first medbay scene. It would obviously look weird if the graphics suddenly upgraded mid-scene for players who chose those paths (and be a bit unfair to f/m players!)

As you can see, the new version is far better quality than the old... more natural lighting and richer colours, and a far less grainy background. (NB: These are unedited, so I haven't gone into photoshop and fixed up issues like clothing 'poke-throughs' - a downside to my preference for skin-tight gear). The characters also cast shadows - confirming that they are not vampires 🧛🏻‍♂️

I'll be keeping the new characters in these scenes under wraps for now - but as a clue, one of them is a real 🦊 

😂 And now I must return to bashing away at that code!

Lol - with some difficulty! 😂 The relationship points and future love interest decisions will have more of an effect here... and will be trackable in the coming personnel files. Although some characters will be jealous - and require managing or hiding from - for the most part it will be understood that MC is kind of the office bike 😂

One thing I am wondering for a while now how will other characters react to MC mingling with multiple people when it actually comes to romantic interactions? Are characters fine with it, is it something MC needs to hide or will it depend on which characters you decide to romance?

Absolutely! If you make the same choices, MC's journey will be unchanged... this simply adds some additional permutations to it 😀 Just as a side note, MC has a lot of different points at which he can enable bi content... and players can flick between f/m and m/m paths.

Well personally I like that there will be m/m analogues to the first few scenes in the game. I see that other patrons are worried that it changes MC's journey, and I understand their point. But I don't think MC has any one particular journey. There are pure m/f players who will only ever play MC as straight, so I don't see any issue with giving some of us the option to play MC as m/m oriented from the start albeit deeply repressed. And the m/f variants will still be in the game for those who like MC's development the way it is now. This just provides options! Yay for choices! :P
