Patreon vs OnlyFans?
Added 2021-10-05 16:30:41 +0000 UTCHey guys! If you're reading this it's because you're subscribed, so a massive THANKS to each of you.
Some of you may recall that a little while back I was debating switching platforms to be able to share more of my erotic photos I've done (Patreon has removed one image I posted before where the subject was more erect than they deemed appropriate and they warned me not to do it again!). I did a complete overhaul of my website and was hopeful I could create private subscriber galleries in which I could showcase nude art images as I do here. It turns out that I could not do that with the payment/banking setup via Wix. Instead, I had to sign up with a third party payment processing site that catered to 'higher-risk' businesses, as they put it. Their description for higher risk businesses included anything related to drugs, gambling and sex. Nude images of people very broadly simply falls into the 'sex' category, regardless of whether it's two people having sex or an artistic nude. This archaic logic - no doubt hypocritical on various levels, is just ridiculous. Remember recently when OnlyFans said they were going to change their rules and terms due to their payment processors not allowing adult-related material? Same thing. This issue aside, I don't have enough of a subscriber base each month to warrant the increase I'd have in fees from said site. Where Patreon charges me a percentage per subscriber, the other site was going to charge me that, in addition to a hefty monthly service charge PLUS another hefty charge each month if the amount I brought in was below a certain amount (which I'm quite sure it would have always been below). Basically I'd be too small fish for them 😂
That leads me to my question - what are your thoughts on OnlyFans? While I love that Patreon caters to more of an artistic community, there are clearly limitations. OF obviously has a stigma surrounding it, but is it worth it? I know for me personally, when I see someone has an OF account, I assume they show full nude photos and videos - the same is said for photographers I see who have an OF. I have a hard time getting over that stigma in my mind that if I'm a photographer with an OF account, I'm somehow degrading or cheapening myself, my art and my models. If I did start using OF (I have it, though it's not currently active), I'd still post the types of images I do here, but the main reason would be to also start sharing the more erotic and edgy images that Patreon won't allow. These are some brief pros & cons to consider.
PROS: more freedom of what to post, broader audience
CONS: negative stigma/stereotype, more likelihood of material being copied, saved and shared online
I'd really love your take on this - either as a comment or a private message.

Don’t worry about stigma, not a OF user, but will be if you go there.
