GRINDING On All Cylinders
Added 2024-02-15 15:00:11 +0000 UTCIn all of my projects there has been one major limitation I have yet to overcome. Precision cylindrical grinding. It's prevented me from hardening my parts which really should be hardened. And has resulted in some of my tooling coming out.... less than stellar. But that all changes today!

2024-02-16 11:01:36 +0000 UTCSure looked like it made a nice grind on those centers. When covering up your lathe while grinding, I've found disposable painters drop cloth to work well. And hit it with a fresh mist of WD40 right before you grind and it helps make the dust cling to the drop cloth. Then bundle it up and toss it.

But that just started to get out of hand and it spun the wrong direction. The cable was a hail Mary but it worked!

2024-02-16 00:22:16 +0000 UTCThere's something utterly absurd about using the lathe itself to power that little belt, but it works, and I can't see a reason why you shouldn't. As far as taking time on a tool? You're right. When I was doing sheet metal work, I'd spend hours on my hammers. Everything had to be close to mirror finish, since every mark on that face was embossed every time you swung that hammer. To this day, I hate damaged hammer faces. Although my two and a half pound blacksmithing hammer is in rough shape, but I use it for things like oil changes these days. I call it "The Persuadotron."

Highlights: - Created a new genre called ASMAARRRRRRRR!!!! - My second favorite character, The BoS, is no longer anemic because he got plenty of iron - The surface grinder, who lives in the corner and should be renamed โBabyโ , got some use. Also, powering the spindle with the flex line and the lathe was genius!
