Could even be on a separate channel.

And we are taught that machine for safety, productivity and comfortable working position need to be a certain distance to eachother

You have an amazing depth and breadth of knowledge regarding all the tooling and set ups - how much of that was working with him? How much was learning in engineering school or googling "how do I do X"? How did your grandfather introduce you to machining? Did you take an interest because he was always out there or did he bring you along? Where is your shop (not geographically)? Is it a home garage, an out building on your property, or separate location?

Is there anything that he made or that you made together that you'd want to do again? Are there any metal working projects that didn't get finished by your grandfather that you plan to pick up again and finish off? Can we see your big white board with all of the projects that you're thinking about and planning for the future? Do you have some simple, around the house type projects, that you could show that were not so significant that you would make a video about but that you could only do because you had access to your grandfather's tools and machines?

What do you think about the chamfer vs fillet debate? Do you prefer how cathartic lathe work can be or do you like the intricacies of mill work?

2023-04-16 21:40:11 +0000 UTCI myself run an automation and machining company, and I routinely find myself drawn to manual machines (knee mill, lathe, surface grinder etc) for small to medium "fun or personal" jobs. I'm curious if you have ran CNC machines, and if so, are you also drawn to manual machining? Personally, I would rather spend all day on a part that in the end may have been overly challenging on a manual machine, than just toss some code into the Fadal and have a part 30 minutes later. It's the personal relationship with my equipment that I'm forever chasing.

I was wondering when this would happen haha 1)been asked previously already, but I might as well add to it - do you have any plans to get more machines for the workshop? If so - what's on your "dream shopping list"? 2)have you ever had any serious injuries in the workshop(not counting bruised knuckles or small cuts) and if so, what were they?(don't need gory detail 😁) 3)thoughts on 3D printing in the workshop?(I mainly ask because I'm very positively biased towards printers myself) 4)what do you do for fun, given that machining seems to be a hobby-turned(pun in tended)-job for you? I'm sure I have plenty more, but at this rate you'd end up with a 3 hour long video 😂

I got a 12 foot section of 1 inch "I don't know" steel round for the cost of buying a scrap dealer's kid some ice cream, and did a bulk purchase of steel for 25% market value due to volume. (I did spend a lot of time and money on the transaction, but I ended up paying for 100 pounds and getting around five hundred for myself)

Do you think doing statics, dynamics, and differential equations by hand are worthwhile to the modern engineering student? What is the silliest "I'm stuck here with nothing to do, I'll do some engineering!" story that you have? (I was alone in the dining hall during exams and computed the distance to the moon using gravity, centripetal acceleration, the radius of the Earth, and the lunar month. All offhand but the radius of the Earth. Easily the same digits of precision out as in.) Do you think all lock-out tag-out tags should have photos and names of the person working the equipment? Ever since I saw that tag, I sure think so. What are you usually listening to while you work? Do you have any tool or consumable you're really particular about? (when I was in school there was this great computational pad paper, the kind with 5 squares per inch and semi-translucent? That brand went out of production and I haven't found anything as quality or durable since. Not that I've looked in ten years) Does Solidworks ever talk about me? I miss it, and wish it'd call.
