(AD FREE) Resurrecting the Phoenix Clock
Added 2023-03-30 14:00:02 +0000 UTC
Bought as a "build your own clock" kit for my great grandfather in the 1980's, legend has it that he never got it running before he passed away. So it sat abandoned in pieces for 30 years attracting dust, as well as great interest from a young boy who loved all things mechanical. Well now that young boy is all grown up and has a machine shop. So let's see if I can bring this beauty to life!
Enjoy!
FYI. If you ever have some crazy project you want to do and you are reluctant b/c materials are too pricy or something. Please feel free to reach out for one off sponsorships…

Just joined and now have my wife hooked on all things IM. Would really enjoy another clock project based on this adventure! Best content. Your production quality is just incredible. Would equate it to Why Files and Bourbon Moth. Thank you!

Funny having the clock running now I never notice it unless I intentionally listen for it. Then again I'm not sleeping anywhere near it haha those bornholmerurs are definitely beautiful pieces. Hopefully this wont be my only foray into horology. Thanks!

Oh that sounds like a fun project. It may be as simple as one thing knocked out of alignment. Thanks!

Oh interesting. That's actually good to know for a lot of wood projects. Thanks!

Thanks as always, Jose! Every once in a while I have to have an excuse to actually use the tools I make for something from the "outside" 😂

I always loved pendulum clocks. At least the sound of them but my biggest issue with them is that I can’t sleep near them because of the ticking. I have the same problem with normal clocks which tick. It is annoying but I still do love the look of those old clocks.
Especially the bornholmerur. That might just be because of me being biased as I am Danish and that clock is made in Denmark.
But clock rant aside it was a nice video and cool to see some wood turning

Brilliant. What a nice move from metal chips to wood chips. And such a beautiful tribute to your grandfather once again. Thank you!

I’m very disappointed that there was nothing added to the box of shame and that there were no side projects! Joking aside, this clock is awesome. I purchased a 100-year old antique mantle clock a few months ago that didn’t survive the trip over the pond from England. Maybe I’ll get around to cracking it open and fixing it now.

Next time you should use Old Brown Glue if disassembly is needed just use warm water. No harm no foul. Ralph

Don't feel guilty about making projects about tools for the job and improvements in your machines, we love them. But peppering some different projects, like this one, adds another cool dimension to your channel. Excellent job as usual!

Love almost everything about this! Heritage project, wood finishing, precision design and machining, it's all great! Something made in my lifetime sitting around for 30 years, that just makes me feel old. Great work all around!
Just make sure to clean the wood chips out of your machines. Moisture and all.
