(AD FREE) Part 1 - Making the KING of All Knurling Tools

I'm ringing in the new year with a much needed knurling tool upgrade! A very kind Patron named Erik noticed my troubles with my current knurling setup and sent along one of those great Hemingway Kits to build and up my game. This will be the first of 2 parts, though at the going rate of this video it might take more πŸ˜‰ But I'm still optimistic. Thanks again, Erik!

The Family Size !

James Riordan

Thank you! haha I'm certain I will outgrow that box before too long (if this project is any indication). What size bin do you recommend πŸ˜‰

Brandon Sander

I think you could manage with a 6" just fine but would just have to get a little creative with your mounting and fixturing. My 12" was actually a bit of a challenge in some cases just because of how far apart the t slots are. It's honestly overkill for most of my projects haha

Brandon Sander

I am looking to add a rotary table to my arsenal. If I were to tackle this project, what do you think the smallest rotary table is that I could get away with? Could I get by with a 6" diameter one? I have a Bridgeport clone, but not a ton of space to store the table when not in use. Keep up the good work!

Nicholas McNeely

I would like to see a comparison of the kit that Quinn did compared to the Hemingway kit.

Nicholas McNeely

Really well done, I particularly enjoyed your thoughtful fixturing. Now, as for your Box of Shame - since it is only a mere box, you are in a very good place; I’m the proud owner of a bin (!) of shame !

James Riordan

Thank you! I'm glad they can be more than just showing what NOT to do haha

Brandon Sander

I really like your videos especially since I'm a beginner Machinist and your videos are very educational

OttoTheDoggo

I don't know why I didn't think of that... here it is and I'll update the description as well. https://www.hemingwaykits.com/HK1115

Brandon Sander

😁 thanks!

Brandon Sander

I know you can’t post any blueprints because this is a kit, but do you by chance have a link to where the plans are available?

Flick Freaks

Loved watching the arms come together!

Sri Ram Neravati

I told you I would use them haha Thanks!

Brandon Sander

That M6 tap looks familiar πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ great video

procrastinatore

Sorry I was talking about swing. but a lot of calculations no mistakes

Ralph McCoy

you might be able to buy the kit and scale down everything. though that's a lot of parts haha

Brandon Sander

πŸ˜‚ all in due time!

Brandon Sander

As long as we keep it smaller than a crate of shame I think we will be ok haha

Brandon Sander

Thanks! The biggest problem with that was I have yet to get around to making the rest of the hardware I would have needed.

Brandon Sander

Thank you!

Brandon Sander

Super nice project! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

I love the vid as always but I am getting confused by one bit. Why make multiple temporary fixture plates when you have the fancy universal one? Isn’t it a waste of materials?

Drokles21

Oh, I feel honoured haha! Absolute pleasure from my end. Very happy to support amazing creators. Oh, and the video's brilliant too ;)

Erik D. Radzius

Great episode Brandon. I thought I was the only one with a box of shame, well mine is a drawer of shame lol. Looking forward to part 2

Jeffrey Spoor

I'd love to make some kits like this. I just need to finish rebuilding my lathe... and my mill... and my surface grinder...

Lucia

Looking forward to your take on this vs. Blondi and Clough42 !

James Riordan

Hemingway has some great kits, alas my Sherline is to small
