(AD FREE) Making Spindles for a RACE CAR!

In a first for my shop I'm taking on some parts that aren't actually for me. But I wouldn't exactly call it commission work. The Formula SAE team I was a part of back in college was in need of some help, so I was more than happy to oblige! They've entrusted me with making their front wheel spindles.

Enjoy!

Another great episode Brandon, looking forward to of more to come!

I know that pain. Our team had a lot of trouble just getting going just because UK doesn't have a student shop either. We ended up befriending the manager of the College of Agriculture research machine shop or we wouldn't have had a car at all. Great guy

I can only imagine. Most teams (from what I've seen) need all the help they can get. Having an inside guy can really make a world of difference.

So if your part is ever ringing too much, just drill some holes in it 😂

Not having a machine shop at a UC (University of California) I attend, was quite disappointing. I didn't join FSAE for that reason but this video made me happy to see the your old team getting the support they deserve!

I'm actually in my college's SAE Baja team (Grove City College) right now, and I will say that having the head of the campus machine shop (where I also work as a TA) happen to be an alum of ours does make everything work out a lot better for us as a team.

I think your observation about the cut outs interrupting the harmonic waves is spot on; will file this away for future use !

Oh no! 😂 Believe it or not I made all 4 when I was on the team way back when as well. Not under the same kind of pressure as you though! Thanks as always, Erik!

Thank you 🙏

Thanks, Tom!

Well done. Beautiful.

Really appreciate the calm, gentle nature of your videos. No shouty nonsense, terrible music or distractions. *bliss*

Wow! What a blast from the past. More so because I had to do the exact same thing when I was a part of our team haha! We had a slighly unfortunate event where our spindle broke in testing about a week before competition, so we had to make new ones. The only difference was that we used 7 series aluminium, and it wasn't anywhere near as good haha What a great way to start a day by seeing a new video from you, Brandon.
