(AD FREE) Making an ARMY of Tool Holders

This one's been a long time coming. I'm finally taking care of my lack of quick chance tool post holders and more than doubling my collection. I think it will be a while before I have to re-mount a tool!

Enjoy!

Absolutely. Those two would go hand in hand

Brandon Sander

Thanks! I don't have an immediate need for one, but those old Starretts sure look cool. Might be good to make it before I need it honestly

Brandon Sander

Super excited to see your next project, I know you have a machinists level but like you said, it can be a bit big at times. It would be a great project for you to learn on and for us to watch!

Ya that would be a good one and I see a side project immediately. Way covers to keep grinding dust off the precision bed surfaces.

Tom Detka

That's a great project idea! But it turns out I already have both a straight shank holder and a morse taper holder for the tool post. Maybe a proper grinding attachment is in order though

Brandon Sander

Than was something I was not aware of. I mostly work in aluminum is probably why

Sandra Carroll

Since it looks like you have some extra steel from this project you should make a carriage drilling holder. Just make another holder but put a 3/4" or 1" hole and then use a straight shank adapter for a drill chuck. That way you can use the carriage and more importantly the DRO to drill holes to a precise depth.

Tom Detka

Nope your right the anodize process will dissolve steel. A handy if not expensive idea to keep in mind if you break a tap in something aluminum and expensive.

Tom Detka

Thank you! I'm not 100% sure but I believe anodizing is limited to aluminum. I could be wrong though

Brandon Sander

Very Nice, Have you ever looked at a clear anodizing? just wondering

Sandra Carroll

Metal is tougher than dirt I guess 😁 Thanks!

Brandon Sander

Really nice end result considering this is from a big piece of truck-ejected steel :P I agree on the bare finish, looks great.

Loved the video. I cool video idea would be integrating lathe tooling basics into a project. Lathe is my weakest area, and I'm not sure how to differentiate the different cutters. Keep up the good work!

Woot Woot!

Brandon Sander

NICE! SUPER PUMPED!
