145 - History's Most Interesting Non-Water Floods

This one is fun. Also, since you're a Patron.... I thought you'd like to see a photo of the event I talk about during the Audible ad! We got to go to the WingFeather Saga animated series premiere. Fun stuff!

Thanks so much for supporting on Patreon.  It's looking like 2023 is going to be a bit rough on advertisers, so it's a huge deal that you're supporting us directly!  Thank you!!

Warm Regards,

Destin

Hearing about the Tennessee Valley Authority reminded me of the time when my wife and I were camping early in our marriage and we looked for something to do and decided to visit a damn near the campsite. Well it turned out to be a pumped hydro storage facility and as a mechanical engineer it was insanely fascinating. They had an entire museum explaining the history behind the dam and how pumped hydro works. I had never heard of pumped hydro storage before, but immediately saw how the energy stored in pumped hydro simply dwarfs any other storage technology I know about.

I was sure that a holiday shopping stampede was going to be on the list! Very interesting episode though, and a touching moment thinking about the entombed family in Pompei. Reading body language in real time is one thing, but to discern the emotions/intentions of individuals in their final moments is a whole other level.
