How much harder is it to refute bull crap than to produce it?

I want to drive to Savannah, Georgia, find those two guys and high-five them/buy them beers. -M
2018-07-19 16:36:18 +0000 UTCI think that's very well summarized. I might borrow that.
2018-07-19 16:35:34 +0000 UTCRe: the 50 yard challenge, I wanted to reinforce how much simply mowing somebody's yard can mean to the recipient. In the summer of 2007, I was deployed to Iraq while my wife was pregnant with our first child. We lived near Savannah, so the weather could get pretty sultry. My wife, being proud and hard headed, decided that she wasn't going to let being pregnant and alone keep her from keeping the grass trimmed. So imagine an 8-month pregnant lady, sweating in the August coastal Georgia heat pushing a lawnmower in the front of the house. All of a sudden, like the Winged Hussars arriving, two men showed up on their riding mowers and made her sit in the shade while they finished up. They mowed the grass several more times that fall before I got back. It still makes her (and me) tear up thinking about it.

2018-06-26 03:42:31 +0000 UTCI had a brief BP spike when I saw your name... Same as my best friend/roommate from HS/college who died in a drunk driving accident. Totally coincidence, but thanks for the good jolt to my memory.

2018-06-24 21:27:04 +0000 UTCMatt, I would paraphrase your overall stance as "just because you disagree with me, doesn't mean you're wrong." If only more people thought like this, the world would be a better place.

2018-06-24 16:45:41 +0000 UTCBy chance could y’all share the name of the Prepper magazine?
2018-06-20 23:29:21 +0000 UTCRe: Prepping/Rice & Beans: you aren't silly or dumb for ordering 200lb of rice and beans... You're afraid (unless you eat a whole lot of rice and beans) of the right thing, but you can swap the fear for a reasonable approach to life that makes sense regardless if there's a Zombpocalypse. Journal what your family eats, buy a little extra every trip to the store, and you'll end up with 3-6months in your pantry in less than a year. If you want to move from Chicken Little to Destin Dorightbyyourfamily before you blow any real money, check out The Survival Podcast. Jack (host) has "12 Principles of Modern Survivalism" that are practical things to make you better prepared for every day. DM me for a link to a specific good show that's worth an hour of your time. Note: Jack's show is how Patrick Roerhman decided to start MT Knives. Edit: I need to listen to the whole episode before I comment again.. :) - Matt, Is you're wife doing layout for Self Reliance Mag?

2018-06-20 16:36:49 +0000 UTCI have a Facebook group with 11 other Dillon Allens - there were more but the boring ones left. For many years, I was the only one on the internet... I was there when email was "Gopher" from University of Wisconsin. So you can imagine my gmail... The others are all at least a decade my junior. So I get lots of their emails (car is ready at the dealer, etc.). The FB group helps us sort it out. I don't have any doppleganganamers who are convicts or white supremacists. Since we seem relatively clean, we're considering a run at the White House. Imagine the president, VP, and most of the cabinet having the same name... Dillon Allen would be one, two, 5, 7... heartbeats from the oval office. :) As Larry the Cable Guy said, that's funny right there... Anyway, the Dillon Allen ticket, with me in the main or VP seat and at least half of us libertarian or less governmental, would appreciate your write-in vote in 2020.

2018-06-20 03:59:48 +0000 UTCWell, as someone close to my father, this was equally emotional for me guys. Great episode. I need to make a phone call now...
2018-06-19 20:07:10 +0000 UTCAs a new patron I was kind of disappointed I didn't get to support it :)
2018-06-19 19:47:53 +0000 UTCCouple of thoughts (admittedly from early on). A) I’m from Halifax and I promise I have never, ever mistaken our (NDQ’s) Matt for the local Matt. Our Matt is clearly the best Matt. B) I can totally get behind instagram silliness. I’m blind, and even I take and post pictures because I think it’s funny as heck (even named it “blind girl photography”). Because.. why not? It’s equally funny when the pictures are utterly random/of nothing and when they bizarrely work out and look nice. Huzzah for instagram fun things.
