Is HimmelReich still possible?

I didn't have the AI comix page ready in time (working on the Kochbook to the exclusion of most else), so I'm using this opportunity for a survey of sorts: In today's world, is it still possible to run the Himmelreich satire?

Gunnar, the Last True Nazi, is finally slain. But instead of burning in hell as he deserves, he's let into heaven with a wink and a nod. Y'see, around WW2, Heaven was being overwhelmed by the influx of souls. So God recruited some newcomers who had plenty of experience in ruthlessly managing large numbers of people: Yes, the Nazis.

St. Peter's mostly-Nazi staff like Gunnar's style, and plot to get him back to Earth to continue his good work. Obviously, this is pure satire, a big ole piss-take on religion. But would people understand that, today? I love Donna Barr's illo of Jesus learning people-management skills at the feet of Hitler, there. It's hilarious!

.....So would today's audience also find it funny, or would they take it literally, shrieking as they clutch their beads? And then running to their computers to Cancel me? I never had my finger on the pulse of youth culture even back when I was part of it. And I can't afford to lose my Partreon income. It's pretty much my only income.

So, good readers, what do you say? Can I hope to get away with running this story here?

Is HimmelReich still possible?

*sigh* I fear you're right. Times have changed, and in many cases, not for the better.

Kjartan Arnorsson

I think it won’t be as funny as it would have been twenty years ago.

I strongly recommend against it. Religion, especially crossing it with any of the 'Evil N Words', is risking way more blow back than ANYTHING else furry or P*rn. This is NOT a fire to play with at this time. Satire or not. I personally feel that the internet at large, and even in little niche spaces, has forgotten that Parody and Satire are fine arts, and these days take them WAY too seriously, rather than the manner in which they are intended. And other folks are using the labels of Parody and Satire to get away with hate speech.

I think you're playing with fire, considering what the Cancer Culture has turned into, but it's been a minute since you gave a damn what I think.

Understanding satire requires thought, which has been ruthlessly destroyed in the general population. One might think the double requirements of membership to Patreon and membership to an artist's account would act as filters, but I've seen an artist lose their account just because somebody took offense at what the artists whole Patreon account was about. Karno, I would love to see it posted, but not here. Find some other site to post it on. And even then, be prepared for some smoothbrain to try to get your Patreon canceled even though you did NOT post it here.

I grew up with Allo Allo, spike milligan and lived in a military environment where taking the piss out of nearly everything in history was the primary form of humour. While I would find it hilarious, I agree with the majority hear that it would be too much risk in todays world. Funny eh? Some folk draw the worst torture porn imaginable and often no one bats an eye, flash up a swastika in something that's clearly meant to be satire, and the world loses its God damn mind.

IroncladEquine

I would very much like to see this, but honestly the cancel culture fucktards would likely take down your patreon over it.

Catsnightmare

Ehh....yeah...Not my thing. The prime reason I support you on Patreon is Mink, Savage Squirrel, and Herman Orca. I would rather see more of those.

Travis Sebastian

sadly modern audiences dont like the Nazi word even though one of my favorite shows is the british comedy Allo' Allo' which parodies the nazis and really every faction in war. I personally would find this story hysterical.

edric storm

I would hold off on running it through the patreon for now, but perhaps you can put a pin on it? Maybe survey again next year and see if more folks are interested? I can only speak as a millennial, I've been more interested in the furry and ai comics lately, but I can't say you haven't peaked my interest! I do think new readers seeing it today would miss the satire at first, but by that first read/glance, the damage will already be spread and done.

not gonna clutch pearls and definitely am up for a decent nazi satire but honestly their rep for being able to successfully process or move large numbers of people is kinda overblown and not great. So I'd mostly worry about factual errors. The nazis in fact were not well organized nor did their trains run on time.

I can't speak to the gen-x cancelers but I am Meh on that story, much prefer Mink or furry sex. Not so much on humans being human.

John in Seattle

I advise against it. These days, folks are really trigger happy with the butt-hurt and as entertaining as it sounds to a gen-x guy like me that grew up on the likes of Mel Brooks movies and uncensored Tex Avery cartoons, the newer generation is a lot less tolerant of such things.

Sleepy Dave

No thank you

RooCat_UK

What the hell?

Siyu

As funny as I personally think this would be, considering your exposure to Spike Milligan vis a vis his wartime experience, but I feel this would get you ultra canceled if the wrong person saw

will the newt
