BEDLAM, part 38.

By "us soldiers", Leynisevich means fighters - those who put their all too mortal bodies between their families, their nations, even the world - and those who would do them harm.

So why not tip your hat to a vet, on occasion? A smidgen of respect is a lot cheaper than paying them what they're worth.

Fun fact: Laura cannot purr on command. It only happens when she is in just the right state of relaxation and intimacy, so her purr is seldom heard.

I'm old enough to remember WWI vets living in the building at my favorite bookstore. I used to drive one of them to the VA hospital every Friday night for cardiac monitoring, before the Holter monitor (portable EKG). My Dad served in Europe during WWII. He had memories he would never discuss.

If a cat is willing to fall asleep purring on your chest, you can’t have done *that* badly in life.

Don't have to tell me about vets, my Grandpa was a Pearl Harbor Survivor.

This is so unbelievably sweet. And as to vets, can we just pay them what they're worth? That "thank you for your service" stuff seems weird and self-aggrandizing to me, along the lines of public pronouncements of one's piety.
