While Mengele's research was dismissed as sadistic and useless hackwork, the US Army was seriously interested in Unit 731's research to the point of letting the personnel off the hook as long as they handed their materials over.

As dark as the knowledge in that tome might turn out to be, it *will* provide options, and if you live long and intensely enough, you're *going* to run into to a situation when that dark option might actually save your ass... at a cost of course. Do that for long enough and, well, that's how villains are made isn't it?
