So, dude walks in, parks next to the Mink and she starts pouring her heart out to him. I guess we know what his power is!

Hhhhmmm. Dream sequence perhaps. Or past affiliation we've long since forgotten mention of. She's had a lot of fun times before the crazier parts started, perhaps this is a former bed-friend. :3

A better example is Japan's Unit 731, it's World War II bioweapons research unit, which used brutal human experimentation. While Mengele's research was dismissed as sadistic and useless hackwork, the US Army was seriously interested in Unit 731's research to the point of letting the personnel off the hook as long as they handed their materials over.

The issue with "turning evil" is that you don't realize it's happened until it's far too late, you can always justify an "evil" act by saying it's for the greater good, when you start doing that, it's a slippery slope that's hard to get away from

Turning evil doesn't happen in one big leap (at least not usually), but rather in many, many tiny little steps. As dark as the knowledge in that tome might turn out to be, it *will* provide options, and if you live long and intensely enough, you're *going* to run into to a situation when that dark option might actually save your ass... at a cost of course. Do that for long enough and, well, that's how villains are made isn't it?

Basically Laura is facing the same conundrum as the Allies did with all the experimental results from the Japanese and Germans from World War II - do you throw away the information because of how it was sourced, or do you try to offset the evil of its creation by doing good with it?
