In a pack of jackals like this there 9s always an alpha, even if only nominally, pushing the group onwards. The other 2 may have been fully willing and complicit, but Cochran was likely always the leader of the trio. The first to suggest it and the most often to boot. Not saying the other 2 deserve any less punishment, but bullies are also pretty creatures so I'm not at all surprised that those 2 blame "the one that got them into this mess" rather than themselves.
