Scotman and Icelad in Road Trip! part 55.

Mink has accepted she can't save them all. Were she to even try, that way doth madness lie. But that still doesn't make it easy to tell a crying, doomed child that there's nothing you can do for them.

   As for the Torch of Liberty....little pleasures that you take for granted might be rare luxuries for others. We are not all the same, thankfully.

One of them being her arcane knowledge and sources for gaining more . . . her own body modifications involve magic that "tweek" the blueprints ever so slightly to achieve an "evolution" into a more "prime" or "alpha" state. The same with actual "transformation" magic . . . altering the structure, design, and substance of things from one to another. If she finds a tome or grimoire containing more thorough study of the living structure and performing such kinds of spells upon said structure . . . she can begin her own research into magically altering, modifying, and even rewriting and correcting the "blueprint/recipe" of a living being. Albeit such power would likely have some heavy restraints placed on it to keep things under control.

If Mink becomes skilled enough, she might find a way to make enough changes to get rid of a genetic disease. The problem is the patient becomes someone (and maybe something) else...

That... was a painful read. But, understandable, since Mink is not a god. Close, but she does have limits.

I'm assuming that was not Jenny though? From the way the nurse was speaking it sounded like Jenny had a missing body part. Either way, heavy. Happy Mink hasn't/won't go mad though, that would just be awful. Random thought though. Pity Mink presumably can't use someone elses blueprints, a sort of nerve transplant but without having to actually remove the original nervous tissue just copy it from someone with healthy genes. Course, that would no doubt have a whole other world full of problems anyway. Just a thought. As for TToL, might want to get him a fireproof hairnet though just in case. ^^;

She should be able to repair genetic defects, though I expect that it will take her years of study to do so. Right now it looks like she still has enough to do to learn everything the book can teach her. It's when she is going to create her own spells that go beyond the book when things get really interesting. When she can work with modern knowledge and adapt spells to it. Though that will be the point when Max will get thoroughly confused. Up to now he may not understand magic, but can wrap his head around it in theory. But take your time getting there. After all, the wizards that wrote the book were already near immortal, so she has time.
