Bit of a simplification - the founding principles were inconsistently applied, much as they were in the real-life America. But it is these egalitarian principles that allowed the nation to grow into a powerful and prosperous polity. We discard them at our peril.

Something that comes up in the next few pages is the detail that it was only MAMMALS that became sentient. Well, and chickens, but chickens don't progress mentally past a human child at around 12 months of age.

I pity all the kits and calves who have to memorize that flag in school.

A situation like this calls for extensive detail review . . . that's what I like about your style big guy, you not only pose the question, you get it out on the table for everyone to see . . . In a world where "all" animals have become sentient, how does the food chain structure with the addition of morals and ethics now added upon natural instincts? And I doubt any generation produced a scientific mind capable of cultivating an effective meat substitute that can provide both nutrients and flavor.

Interesting. I assume Carnivores had to supplement their food with some vegetables (suited for carnivores) to compensate for lulls in the supply?
