The Internet was preceded by the "small press" - where amateur 'tooners and writers used the advanced technology of photocopiers to make a great variety of small print-run comix and 'zines, which we then traded via snailmail amongst each other (with review 'zines like Factsheet 5 often acting as a central message-board).
I miss that era, sometimes. Still have boxes of 'zines and photocopied minicomix stashed here and there.
