I'm convinced they only survive because of their monopoly in many markets - nobody would put up with their godawful service if they had any better choices.

My general viewpoints are: a) extraordinary abilities should be applied to either extraordinary problems or trivial things (to avoid the issue of dependency) and b) if you're a minority, either hide really, really well or go irreversibly public so you can't be made to "disappear".

2015-09-22 16:21:31 +0000 UTCRe Cox: Agreed. Same with each of the 'big cable' cable companies. They have (near) Monopolies... so they have no real reason to give good customer service or anything. I have been so very tempted to go 'unplugged' as far as TV service is concerned. Re Mink's dilemma: Power is a curse and a responsibility. It chains one as much as it frees.
