Yamcha: THE pUNCHING bAG OF THE fRANCHISE?

Why does Yamcha not get much credit in Dragon Ball? Today we discuss why the first rival of Goku doesn't get much love or opportunities to show his original potential and why the break up of him and Bulma was so weird.  And while there were attempts recently to try and connect this pose with a triumph in the baseball episode, which has gone down as one of the most memorable Super episodes (you know your series has produced a corker when people refer to a specific trope to said episode) but Yamcha still hasn't recovered from years of being this franchise's punching bag...most of the jokes of the series revolve around him and sometimes even the actual show chooses to play upon the meta humour for a quick laugh or to get some attention on it when things are looking a little stale. Do characters really deserve this kind of treatment from the show runners? Or is this simply the vestigial tail of a bygone age where the showrunners didn't care about that sort of thing for the sake of a gag? It's up for discussion, certainly for Dragon Ball Super and beyond.
