I certainly didn't hate it and laughed a few times, but I just felt kinda disappointed with it without really knowing why I felt that way, and I haven't watched it since that first time. after listening to mike I wonder if that disappointment was from me feeling like I was tricked into watching something they tried to turn into a kids movie.

2024-12-07 01:57:02 +0000 UTCFun conversation about yet another movie I haven't watched. Didn't even know it's Star Trek related. Those tentacle aliens remind me of the aliens in By Any Other Name. It's an episode with an abysmally bad tonal shift from serious and dramatic to comedic halfway through. Well, I guess, the most important part of that episode is "It's green." A bad tonal shift, by any other name, is still a bad tonal shift. The edit of this re:View though is flawless. 10/10!

Much like Chekov tossing a 23rd century phaser to a 1980's FBI agent in ST 4, the consequences of an advanced alien spaceship, crash landing on earth, would sort of, I don't know...change the course of human history! The government would seize everything, and incarcerate every, Living Witness at that event. No one would care about the Galaxy Quest TV show being renewed, they would care about being annihilated in a global, technological arms race. A sort of...TeKWar.

When it first appeared in my TV listings magazine it got 3*, but every time it was rebroadcast it would pick up an extra half star. Now solidly in the 5* category for good.

2024-12-06 17:10:38 +0000 UTCI feel awkward watching this, it’s like seeing the bitter old Grinch telling the wide eyed young Huey that Santa is a drunk. Being close to Grinch age myself, I feel a bit like Mike that something is missing. I remember thinking the trailers for this movie sold it as more of a comedy, and it does seem like a lot of the jokes were cut out for a family friendly fun adventure. It ends up being a tight movie that isn’t really hilarious… funny moments, sure, but it’s actually sort of similar to the bait and switch with The Orville 100 years later, where it’s actually just a solid sci-fi jaunt instead of a laugh a minute comedy.
