Flashback: Footage from our first studio circa 2013

I'm on a mission of digging through old stuff. Right before we moved out I shot some footage inside our first studio. Just to document it. Maybe for this exact reason. To totally forget that I shot it for ten years. A little time capsule or whatever.

Comments

Almost been an entire Boyhood since Boyhood. I recognize the 2nd room from the Tigtone bts and that short doc "Bad Movie." Reminds me of shit I made when I was bored. I should make videos again just for myself.

Jimmy Rode

so relaxing. had a good time watching this sipping coffee.

Drew W

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO." Also I have a feeling the rape jokes would probably be censored by the Youtube overlords today. It's not like it was a complex constume that would be difficult to rebuild. Rich could probably do it in five minutes flat.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

I think the costume went moldy and they threw it out. A sad end for one of the classic characters of the RLMVerse

Special effects

Ace Degenerate

I love how the box is named: "Special" Effects! What's in there?

Artur Sosnowski

This kinda made me emotional, RLM stuff never does that! Usually it just sends me into a blind rage!

Carolyn Sicbaldi

Based on the shots through the windows I'm guessing this was in Walker's Point somewhere?

William Sircin

it’s a very sweet thing that you have all been able to work together for so many years, growing and learning and reaching people all over the place. thanks for everything!

Lucy TA

It's nice to look back and take stock every so often. Hard work does pay off, kids.

Michael Federici

Thanks for sharing ❤️

Jesper Lindberg

Zweithand-Nostalgie

Rudolf Rohaczek

I feel like I just watched part of an episode of Mr. Rogers.

Paul Turner

This footage is wonderful

Never forget your roots joe Rogan.. you can never forget your roots

Frazzled Doo

Is there a cool German word for second-hand nostalgia? It's always interesting looking back at where people started and comparing it to what they've achieved. Even though I don't know any of the fine folks at RLM, videos like this still stir up the emotions a little bit imagining all the wild stories and ups and downs that probably took place there. Thanks for sharing, Mike!

bertsy

Iirc, originally a one-off joke made because of an old video with the Olsen twins where Plinkett is introduced and very inappropriate. Probably on YouTube...

Mortrek

Genuinely sweet and quietly entertaining. Something doesn't have to be high effort or overly creative to be truly enjoyable. Like a great homemade sandwich. Thanks for the sandwich, Mike.

Jake Martin

Just to echo the rest, really cool that you shared this, it's interesting and sorta sad. I wish I had this kind of footage of my last house I lived in 18 years ago. Or when I was a kid... Getting old sucks. On a lighter note, I hope in your digging you rediscover The Western Ore Musical.

JTruts

Time is the enemy of all....

JTruts

What an intensely normal thing to say.

Allison PM

Also, I don't remember their previous warehouse having a cricket with perfect comedic timing.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

And it still fits! It's magic, like Jay's age or the shorts and shirt from American Dad that give you the body of a prime Ricky Martin. Not that I need them. I have the captivating, supple body of Michelangelo's David (before it was carved from of its piece of marble, so what I said is technically correct -- the best kind of correct).

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

It's just really nice to see how much they still enjoy what they do, the amount of effort they continue to put into everything, and the fact that they've never changed to widen their audience. They're just three guys who have their dream jobs, and thank goodness for that because it means they won't suddenly post a "we're tired of doing this goodbye" video in the next few years.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

So inspiring to look back, you've made a lot of progress.

Chauncey Frend

So, what happened to Fuck-Bot 5000? I feel like that's a character who deserved to have its head rebuilt after the epic Daniel Tosh press conference, which is one of my favorite RLM videos ever. Especially the "tiny tiny testicular cancer." EDIT: I just realized that the press conference was really a coverup for Fuck-Bot being assassinated by the KYB (Committee for Youtube Security)

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

Very cool! Thanks for sharing this! What’s the story behind Mr Plinkett? Is the name made up or based on someone?

Mike St Louis

Neat!

Pressley Press

Oh great! Now I have to spend 12 hours a day for the next two weeks examining this frame-by-frame to find the source of side comments and continuity shifts in the RLM cinematic universe. Seriously. That is great!

Joe Triscari

That was very sweet :) thanks for sharing with us

Sarah Low

Reflective & slightly sentimental. Except for the rats.

Lisa

Thank you, Mx. Gorlon! Verrry cool

DemmyD

Not to get too sentimental, but Mike your creative output has been a positive part of my life for a very long time. The amount of work put into everything RLM does, whether it be a feature film, 90 minute video essay, or even just a behind the scenes video remains a deep inspiration to me. Thank you for wasting your life you hack fraud.

Benjamin Smith

I've never been so interested in someone's old work space. Was the sound of the trains the reason for always mixing light musak under the dialogue in hitb?

Dominic O'Neill

The sound of the train in the background somehow made this more relaxing to watch

Riley Veal

I caught a glimpse of the red hawiian shirt.

Allison PM

How sweet!!

Amanda B.

That's a jazzy way to send out some nostalgia. Thanks!

Teagan Wood

Thank you for posting this!

Jeremiah Sievers

Very relaxing.

NF

The Vince Guaraldi type music was perfect.

Kellic

Fantastic video; thanks for sharing it

Pete Michaelson

Was this from when you still had hope?

danthemaninacan

Talk about setting a mood...

Benjamin Forman IV

This had a real "going on a field trip with Mr. Rogers/Sesame Street" vibe to it, that was really nice. Thanks for sharing!

Marsdriver

This was so cool!

Stephanie Lloyd

this is super cool to see

Tom McGraw

This was lovely. Thanks for the bts time capsule!

John Eberhardt

Mike, along with his audience, is feeling very old today.

Ben Zion

This is history

I Like Movies
