Back to say that I watched Gen V now that Jay gave it his seal of approval, and he’s right, it’s pretty good. Around the quality of The Boys, and it has introducing different characters working for it. I was actually a little fatigued by season 3 of The Boys, sort of starting to get a “same old” feeling to it. I just don’t know how many times you can take Homelander to the brink and have him pull it back. I guess maybe they’re done with that now, based on the conclusion of that season and what’s talked about in Gen V, but it’s felt a little stretched out to me and that’s sort of a problem because the show really does revolve around him in a lot of ways.

I liked The Flash too, far more than I thought I would. It’s structurally sound, which is much more than I can say for most recent comic book movies, and there was enough schlock to keep it entertaining. I think Miller is just fine too… his annoying version was obviously on purpose and I sort of think that people complain a lot about his performance because he is an actual crazy person and he was terrible in the Whedon Justice League. He’s been okay in the Synder cut and this one.

I guess. I am anti-decadence, anti-franchise myself. 33 Marvel films is a crime.

I'm surprised Jay liked the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie. I thought the movie was like listening to some annoying Gen-Zers talk (argue) for a long time. It was an excruciating theatrical experience to get through, not as bad as Exorcist Believer, but close.

Too late, Denis Villeneuve has said his 'Dune Messiah' script is almost done, so the wheels are already well in motion for at least one more movie. (More smart sci-fi is good news from my view.)

I'm kinda surprised that Jay didn't watch either John Wick: Chapter 4 or The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023) given that he enjoyed the previous Wick entry, and also because Caine Mutiny was the posthumous final release of one of his personal favorites, William Friedkin (and also Lance Reddick. Rest in Peace to both). Maybe he hasn't heard about the latter before, though. I definitely had to keep myself informed about what was going on with its production because it was receiving very little promotion as a Showtime exclusive movie

Huh, I wonder if Jack likes the Silo show? Not that Jack has ever stated appreciating the source material at all. Like never on Previously Recorded or anything. Hell, he probably has never heard of Wool and the other books in the silo series by Hugh Howey. But that's probably not interesting enough to do a video about. How about you force someone to do a star trek trivia video? Wait, you already did that with Jay. Maybe get somebody who was on some iteration of Star Trek to fly out to the frozen tundra and face Mike or Rich in a trivia kal-if-fee (I had to look that shit up I'm not some trekkie nerd)? Fuck it, content is content.

I feel weird about Dune: I love Dune but I also want it to fail financially so that they aren't then tempted to try and make sequels out of the *really* unfilmable 5 other books (or, God help us, any of the Brian Herbert bullshit)

I do not understand why it's considered so unacceptable to recast roles. Not just by studios but by audiences. Like Chadwick Bozeman died and there wasn't the slightest mentioned that maybe, perhaps a different actor could play Black Panther. Or when "Solo" came out, I listened to a bunch of people say how Alden Ehrenreich didnt look like Harrison Ford. And I was like, "Are these people really confused or angry when they see two productions of Shakespeare and Hamlet is played by two different actors?"
The only scenario where anyone is willing to consider multiple actors for a single role is, once again, multiverse bullshit like Spider Man.

I love the much bigger problem with the flash, along with the everything and the fact that they decided to make half the movie Man of steel, was that Michael Keaton phoned it in. They couldn't even make him say his catchphrases properly. Yeah obviously read the script, wish he was in Marvel movies again, and just decided to soldier on the way Mr. Rogers taught him one of the many problems with both spider verse and this movie is the atrocious seizure inducing animation where they try to skip frames to try to emulate hand drawn animation and it just looks horrible. skipping frames is a cheat developed by actual artists to compensate for their lack of time and money. It only looks good in hand drawn animation done by people who know what they're doing

FotHoU spoilers: technically no cats die in the show. Each Usher is given a test before they die. If they fail the test they are killed in brutal ways. Leo had just hallucinated Pluto’s death and had he come clean instead of try to cover it up, the body would have disappeared, Pluto would be found alive and he would have died in his sleep. The only character that passed their test was Lenore who refused to lie for the family image and died peacefully.

I’m surprised Jay didn’t watch Infinity Pool. Not did he watch Crimes of the Future last year. I guess he’s not keeping up with the Cronenberg. And I remember Mike loving the film “The Assistant,” I wonder if he’s aware that director came out with a new film “The Royal Hotel.”

Alright so I got discussion of about half the movies on my discussion wish list for these videos. I keep forgetting they don't go to the theaters much anymore so I gotta think about what's gonna be available on streaming/rental. I wonder what the first Half in the Bag of 2024 will be.

The color grading of Asteroid City: it looks like the colorist saturated the blue color range and desaturated the red color range. I assume the colorist made the usual basic corrections and secondary grades, and then added this saturated blue/desaturated red as a style in HDR mode or used the High Dynamic Range Color Wheels, assuming he or she used DaVinci Resolve. Just a guess, though.

The most hilarious part of The Flash is what the story ended up being. When Ezra Miller went about his crazy spree, there was a little talk of “maybe they can recast him!” So I thought it was really, really funny that they wrote a script that could not have been more dependent on him if they tried!
