Half in the Bag: 2021 Movie Catch-Up (Part 1 of 2)

Half in the Bag: 2021 Movie Catch-Up (Part 1 of 2)

Comments

Okay I watched The Night House so you can talk about it now thanks for waiting

Rhea

Probably the same way Mike didn't mention Star Trek during the conversation about Being the Ricardos.

Jeremy Ross

How did jay make it through an entire conversation about lamb and never mention eraserhead?

Ian Stewart

That emoji react was excellent

Darren Broadbent

I'm so glad they like I Think You Should Leave. It's a ridiculous show. "Eddie Munster was jumping all over my tables!"

Michael Federico

I just watched the Woodstock 99 documentary. I’m probably the age you need to be to get the most out of it- was 19 in summer of 1999- but I really liked it a lot, thanks for the recommendation Jay.

James Robertson

You'd think he'd been a regular guest at the Booze-O Show instead, right...?

Manuel Johnen

I don’t know why, but seeing Mike on the Bozo Show reminded of me of when Michael Scott was interviewed by that puppet.

andrew

Have you seen Titane yet? youve discussed the director's debut feature (Raw) I believe but... I'm absolutely obsessed with Titane. ik its not as accessible perhaps as Raw, but I don't feel like it was too esoteric lol. curious if that will make part deux

howdy

Mike’s “And that’s when I learned” stories are always great. Hands Across America the dangers of group think, etc. so funny

Kim Luu

A good-bad movie recommendation: Ryuhei Kitamura’s “Versus” (2000). To get the full good-bad part you’d need the 2000 DVD with the English Dub track, leave the subtitles on and set to translating the original Japanese (not translating the English dub) while the dub plays. The dub is outstandingly over the top, and the sub has some of the best crazy lines. We love it and watch Versus this way every 6 months or so. Must have the 2000 dub/sub combo in effect or it’s merely a cheesy *sorta* fun schlocky one-location martial arts zombie movie that takes itself way too seriously. It looks like they shot it in the woods behind the directors house! Cheap and ambitious but ultimately clown shoes. I think this recc is more up Jay’s alley, although the goofy action, the goofy translation and wild dub delivery tends to win folks over quick. Can’t wait for part 2 of this 2-part review series 😎👍

Did mike just drunkenly say some conspiracy theories are real 🤔

now THAT would be a subversion of expectations\

Aaron Cabe

Haven't they talked about I Care A Lot before, at least briefly, or was that a weird RLM dream I had?

Jessie Zimmer

Thanks for the recommendations! Excited you talked about I Think You Should Leave. Those sketches are so refreshingly unique and absurd. I’ve loved Tim Robinson ever since he did a short lived series with Sam Richardson called Detroiters. It was a single cam sitcom type show, but definitely in the same line of humor. (The fact that it was shot in my hometown of Detroit didn’t hurt.) You can buy it on Amazon prime if anyone is interested.

Aliciasheesh

Eh. Season 4.

Rhea

I thought the twist in 'Lamb' was the dad was having an affair with a sheep. The film then becomes a divorce drama about who gets custody of the Lamb, and then it becomes a court drama when it is revealed the wife shot Lamb's mother (I'm sure it had a name, but I can't be bothered to wiki it). Alas, no...it's pretty predictable.

Bort Ward

Having now watched the video and reflected on the current state of the world (as referenced in the video) I am ready to curl up in Mike's jacket and slumber forever ✌️

Carly

I yelled at the screen when Jay said there was one episode left when they filmed this. I wanted to hear an extended take on it! Episodes 1-9 were really good. The series ends at the end of season 7 in my heart.

Daniel

Sending hugs your way, thanks for your hard work!

Blue Cheese

I'm a little surprsed Mike doesn't give af about Dexter since I think he said he liked Barry? Oh well whatever. Super happy you guys talked about I Think You Should Leave. Both of you mentioned what really makes the show great: that the joke often keeps going far past the point you'd expect and evolves into this like elevated kind of absurdity, and that there's usually just one character who's insane and everyone else reacts to that character in a very real way. There's exceptions to the latter like the 'fuck you Harley Jarvis' skit (still my favorite) but yeah, Robinson's humor is right up my alley. I'm glad Colin convinced you guys to watch it.

Rhea

I watched The Scary of Sixty One after this. That film be crazy. Great stuff. Thanks for the recommendation

Will Cooling

Jay having to pause and mentally tally how many weird pervert things are on his list, has me giggling already.

Jessie Zimmer

shockstick

nx

Mike, I really want your jacket! 😍

Carly

I felt similarly about Last Night in Soho. I wasn't as high on Saint Maud, but still very much appreciated it as an impressive feature debut. I definitely liked Lamb more than Jay did, but I can understand why it might bore people or leave them cold. I've been meaning to check out I Care a Lot.

Michael Parker

Caiques are adorable! I love how they hop.

Erzaad

I think that jacket makes Mike look like a Caique (a sort of parrot).

Richard Klos

You guys need to see "How to with John Wilson" on HBO it's up Mikes alley.

Robby Chambrella

Thank you for your work.

Benway23

The term "hug" was new to me. I found it in a psychiatric classification. It's a trigger for phobia and panic attacks, along with the "handshake." I researched the origins of both practices, and found that they were once common in less evolved cultures, where people would - get this - willingly express what they called "love," "affection" and "friendship" through these practices. I'm sure glad those barbaric times are behind us, and people practice to fear each other.

Marvin Falz

It’s difficult to NOT be depressed/have anxiety these days, even if you can make others laugh/make fabulous art. To everyone who is struggling with poor mental health, hang in there! You are definitely not alone. And yes, I think we all want to give Mike a hug! This should be a bumper sticker.

I’m in the Uk and hipsters would pay megabucks here for Mike’s bathmat coat.

Goldy Loxx

YOU'RE OUT! God DAMNIT!

Western Phil

for more tommy robbinson check out the Detroiters tv series !!! also Fuck you Harley Jarvous

david gagnon

That restaurant in Bad Grandpa is about 2 miles from my home. The restaurant, Paul's Pantry, is located in Grandview Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.

Gregory Dritz

So basically RLM was born the moment those Bozoputer numbers were rigged.

Juan Calvo

I’m glad the guys enjoyed I Think You Should Leave, didn’t realize there was a new season. Best sketch comedy I’ve seen in like a decade. I guess it’s not lazy, sarcastic, political humor so I shouldn’t be surprised it isn’t more popular

Thanks Herbie!!!

Stan Jonathan Keller

The film My Week with Marilyn sprung to mind as an example of a similar sliver of time biopic to the Lucy Ball movie.

I saw three new releases in 2021... "Jolt", "Spiral: From the Book of Saw" and "Halloween Kills"... ... ... so, not a great cinematic year for me... But I just ordered "Nobody", "Pig" and "Malignant" on DVD... :)

Manuel Johnen

Might give lamb a watch thanks fellas 👍

Hacky New Year, you Happz!!!!!

Great episode. Plague-free hugs to you both!

Kerri Lewis

Oh RLM, you always kill it. There's always a couple of films I want to check out when you do the end of the year catch ups. Eric Andre and George Romero's films in particular.

AllGoodNamesRGone

I know I want to give Mike a hug! but seriously I love you guys. you have great humor. I hope you are not really that much depressed in real life.

Peter Varga

Oh, Thank The Maker!

Lionel Mandrake

Do you need a hug Mike?

rachel

These catch ups are great. I like the relaxed cozy feel with the lighting and the bath mat coat. Look forward to part 2.

Don't worry Mike, you're a winner to the Bozoputer in my heart.

Yessss Lamb and Saint Maude!

Fantastic work

Looking forward to you talking about Saint Maud and Lamb, two of my favourite and/or most perplexing movies last year, LOL.

schopi

Happy New Year RLM!
