I love that instant karma aspect of the ending of this HitB! Well done!

All I remember about Spring is one shot and the rest being very forgettable. Resolution’s my favorite of theirs

As for what McLovin’s character did in Promising Young Woman: He was “raping” her. His fingers were inside her, she says it a minute later, “At least you made sure I was conscious before putting your fingers in me.” I say “rape” because if she were actually drunk and being taken advantage of it would’ve been.
Such an ingeniously upsetting yet fun/funny movie, I’m glad y’all covered it!

It's nice to see Jay and Mike kinda disagreeing about Psycho Goreman. For me the young actress, Nita-Josee Hanna, really sold me the proposition and the tone of the movie, more so than the rest of the cast (brother, parents, etc.). It's borderline overacted/overplayed... but it really work in contrast to the PG character. Not sure that a 100% straight performance from all the cast would have been possible/funny for more than 10 min. It really reminds me of a 2021 Toxic Avenger....

Last weekend, my close friend was telling me all about this "very funny movie" he watched a few months made back by some guys in Wisconson and their YouTube channel with a guy with a strange laugh. Once I found out he was an RLM fan, it made a joyous reunion even better. |
We had only planned to meet for 30 minutes...we sat at the park for 5 hours talking about BOTW.

I really loved "Resolution" and "The Endless", but "Spring" was one of the most godawful and fucking boring movies of the last decade... :/
"Synchronic" looks more like "Spring" than the other two...

With you loving Wet Hot American Summer, it made me think of the 90s skit comedy show The State. Have you guys seen it? If you haven't it would definitely be up your alley! It's got David Wain, Michael Ian Black, and all those guys, it's super funny!
Another great episode thanks guys!

PYW absolutely played on the clichés of rom-coms and dudebro comedies. That bit near the end that Mike talked about could have been straight out of a Hangover movie if not for the horrifying shit surrounding it. The film wasn't perfect in weaving between those different genres but having those discrepancies in tone is what helped drive that message home more effectively than a straight revenge story could have. I actually think that the very end, while it felt satisfying in the sense that our main 'villain' got his comeuppance, what I took from it was, oh God, it took the death of this woman to finally have her voice heard and to get some semblance of justice for her friend, you know? Super glad you guys took the time to talk through this one.
Thanks for recommending that Tim Heidecker special btw Mike. What a talent.

...speaking of anti-comedy, ever seen Neil Hamburger? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n_FJ5RAlnc
I saw him open for an act in Denver and by the end people were literally throwing drinks at him and yelling "fuck you"/"get off the stage" and REALLY meaning it... Definitely the most Kaufman-esque thing I've ever seen in real life.

Maybe the "Young/Frankenstein-effect" (AKA "Putin on the Ritz)"?
To be fair though the blind hermit scene in "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935) might've been the first... I think Mel Brooks thought it was funny too and that's why the Gene Hackman scene in Young Frankenstein is virtually unchanged (it's even more ridiculous that he actually tucks the monster into bed in "Bride"). https://youtu.be/_wRVfzaIRj8?t=107

I sadly could not get into Psycho Goreman. Normally that type of humor makes me laugh, but it fell flat for me (oh and I did enjoy Space Cop 😆)

I agree it was weaker than the other 3 films , but think Benson had perhaps written for a 2 parter like Resolution/Endless which unfortunately left Dornan's character bereft of substance/appeal, and misused in Synchronic alone, giving this superficial overtone. The reference to the red flowers used for the pills, ties back to the french man in the caravan in resolution, who planted the seeds ... (same actor in war scene in synchronic) ) and with Mackie's footage, could drive a follow up which, if it follows on with Dornan, may provide the depth he was missing...or it may just have been a damp squib. Still enjoyed it...and your review of course. Thanks.

I remember Chad Vader from another web series called The Grabowskis. He showed up in one episode, which starts out in a funny, fast paced way, then suddenly turns into drama, when they're informed the woman's father died, and the camera lingers very long on the couple crying. The scene lingers, kind of like the outro of this HitB, it even ends with the male character slipping and hurting himself. Some humor just never gets old! :D
