But he wants to leave a mark of fear that they won't soon forget, so that they will never cross him. Most bullies have an almost compulsive need to establish social dominance in every social situation. He wants to make sure they know that he's the boss in the room. It will be interesting to see whether he tries to make a tactical retreat before winter rye gets there, or whether he sticks around to try to control the narrative of what happened in this social encounter through lies and manipulation.
