Dispatches From The Road

Dear Patrons!

Some of you know that I am bit of  part-nomad, living and working from a Ford Transit-based motorhome about 5 months each year, during which my husband and I slowly wonder around Europe, while he writes his books and I work on my stories.

For those of you who are curious, I wanted to make a quick post on how I get the electricity to power my drawing gear 😁

Overall we obviously try to keep the costs low (eg. avoid campsites and not pay extra for electricity on aire de services (mothorome-only dedicated parking places) so we installed a solar panel on our roof.

This solar panel is plugged into this controller:

And feeds the so called "leisure battery", which is a spare battery located under passenger seat. That battery is connected to the wall socket...

...to which this handy box - a converter - is connected:

To this converter we then connect a single surge protector:

And from there I can power up my laptop (and a colling pad when nessesary). However to save energy, my drawing tablet (Wacom One which is light and portable) is powered from a 30800mAh power bank which we charge from the main battery druing the ride!

So the full setup looks like this:

It usually lasts long enough for me to complete my work - as long as the laptop is in Flight Mode.

Hope you find this interesting :-) I'm happy to answer any questions!

Have a lovely day <3

Thank you! *^^* There are actually more ways to get the juice: one is to have an access to a hook-up and use special cable to connect the car to the electricity. It sometimes is possible for free or for a very low fee. The other one is to charge laptop whilst driving via converter. Finally the leisure battery charges during driving and can be used as a backup during very cloudy day.

Hah, indeed ^^'

^_^

I knew you were spending a lot of time on the road but I never really thought about how you got the electricity to run your laptop and all the other stuff. It’s kinda amazing that you have set this all up.

That's a hell of a setup. Must have taken some time to map out
