Some random thoughts I wrote down since the first post. I think the one who should, and perhaps the only one who can defuse this situation right now, is Thistle. As emotionally immature and socially incompetent Fizzlepop may be, so far she's been the only one who's admitted her mistakes and guilt. She tried to make amends. In a childish and ineffective way, but still. Right now she sees herself as the victim, not the root of this mess ... which I think is understandable, especially in regards to Thistle's betrayal. Even w/o the dark magic. Fireweed is still hiding behind the righteousness of his revenge. He doesn't care that nothing he does right now is helping his dead parent, the farm or his family's livelihood. His revenge is more important than salvaging what's left of the relationship with his sister, teaching decency to his cousin ... or the distress his actions cause to a stray foal. So ... will he be crushed under the hooves of the monster he created? Or will there be a redemption arc for him as well? Tempest certainly won't give a damn about anything he says and of the three pones she might listen to only Thistle is there right now. I like the fact that Thistle isn't heroine material, that she can't handle intense situations like this. She's a normal mare, a bit on the naive and fragile side, who needs a strong protective partner. So her falling for the mighty warrior with signs of tsundere cuteness makes sense. But she needs to suck up her snot and get her head out of her butt for at least a few moments now. "I did send the report my brother wanted - in which I only stated the obvious and confirmed what he already knew - ... between playing house with a lost foal and sleeping with my mark. Why does he treat me like a dirty backstabber?" "I told her that I couldn't hate her and that I forgive her ... that I love her ... - about a day after I drugged and interrogated her so I could write that report." "So why is my pretend happy life exploding in my face all of a sudden? Sob sob." Seriously, Thistle. Grow up. Now.

panel 1: wind and distant thunder panel 2: stifled sobs panel 3: deep angry growl What I like about this page is that the characters seem to hit their limits, no endless supply of nerve strings here. Thistle is crying and hugging herself, Fire has that "crap, I'm doomed" -look on his face and Fizzy is turning her sadness into anger, as she does when she's about to break. And the best part: You can't even tell who the bad guy is in this situation. They all fucked up. They all have reason to be sad ... and angry at each other. They created this clusterfuck together. Let's see if they can admit their mistakes and self righteousness before ... "Tempest..SMASH!!". And before the real villain does something to Lu again.
