Whatever the truth is, as some people pointed out, things got a bit complicated!

They are and it's worth noting that Lulu proactively made a plan to find such ponies and change her life.

.. unless, in reality, they're NOT awful at all, and Lulu only vilified them in her head. She could have associated her foster family with the tragic loss of her parents, and it could have gone downhill from there. Not saying that's the case - especially since some of the earlier evidence (when she wet herself, for example) suggests otherwise. But it's possible she ran away, for wrong reasons and her family is worried sick about her. I hope we will find that out soon enough ;]

Lullaby needs to keep telling Tempest just how awful her foster family is. Fizzy and Thistle are the best thing to happen to her.

I think they should take Lulu back to her aunt as soon as possible before the situation gets worse. They can explain everything on the way there. Then, if Lulu really wants Fizzy and Thistle adopt her, they should ask princesses for help since all the princesses and their friends are the ponies who believe them.
