Clarissa and Lindel (Illustration + Process)

This is a little fanart I did for AtomicKingBoo on Twitter. It's also another attempt at a sketch illustration, I've been experimenting with a thicker brush line for the sketch and seems to work well for a more cartoony/design heavy style. In this case the design of the illustration was pretty simple since the white of skin contrasts well with the darks of the clothing and background, so it wasn't a big problem in that aspect. Only problem was trying to separate the dark clothing from the dark background, and I feel like colored rim lights are probably the best solution here. Making the background lighter could have also worked, but I feel like it made the illustration weaker as a whole. I also added textures in the last step to break up the blacks a little cause otherwise they feel very digital and boring to watch.
In terms of design, I feel like AtomicKingBoo's Lindel is a really good goth design. While I'm emotionally attached to Clarissa I can definitely see how Lindel's design is both simpler and more striking, especially thanks to her height which pairs up well with her other features. Definitely check out their account as there's a lot of interesting designs to learn from.
In terms of pose I think I did a good job with the expressions which came out exactly as I wanted them, and a terrible job in the most important part of the illustration -- the boobas. I don't like how they turned out honestly, they don't feel like they are pressing together and they don't feel very natural. Live and learn I guess
