The futile escape

Level Q1 agent Barret burst into the private quarters of supreme commander Codrian. Up until then, he had so much been consumed by the importance of his message, that only now, he stopped and realized that he might very well be signing his own death warrant one second from now. "Yes?" The SC was standing with his back to him, pouring himself a drink. There was no way back. "Sir, the package has escaped! Her cell door just sprang open one minute ago! She must have had help from outside, hackers from ASIDE perhaps, or..." Codrian raised his hand, silencing him, and turned around.

"Actually, that door sprung open over three hours ago, agent Barret. Their hackers have been cloaking that information for as long as they could, and it has taken our intelligence until now to break through..." He paused for a moment, and Barret was sure what this calm demeanor meant: he was dead!

"Sir, I...", he started, voice shaking. "Agent Barret, you worry to much. Here, have a drink and come and sit down with me!" Savoring every living breath, and with a heavy heart Barret followed. They sat down in a corner of the room, and the SC took hold of a small device, pushed a button, and a large screen rose up from the floor. "You know, agent, I'm sure ASIDE would have had a plan to have her back in case she would get caught. I just didn't realize that they were this advanced already." He paused again, pushing some more buttons, and all of a sudden, the screen was filled with about forty small images. Barret recognized the sick bay, a few ones of the laboratory, some others...

"You have got to admire her skills, though.", Codrian mused. "She knew that that door would spring open, yes, but how did she notice? I guess a change of temperature might give it away, or maybe some new kind of smell..." "Sir?" "AND she must have a great feeling of time, internal 'body-clock', because she didn't just take of right away; she waited for some forty minutes, until the time your men changed shifts." Your men! He could feel the noose tighten. "I'll sent in a full team right a..." Again, he was gestured to keep quiet. "Look at the screen..."

Suddenly, the whole screen was filled with just one image now. A female figure, edging forward ever so slowly, swaying this way and that, trying to use a wall on her shoulder for guidance, her whole head encased in a massive sensory deprivation helmet. Although Barret couldn't see her face, he could only begin to imagine her despair. He himself however, sighed a sigh of relief. He might live after all!

Codrian smiled and gestured with his glass to his first hand man. "Agent Barret, just sit back and enjoy the show..."
