Artist's Rundown - Episode 10

Hi everyone, welcome to my Artist's Rundown, where we can talk about what happened in the latest episode, which panels to check again for easter eggs, and what brushed to use if you fancy creating something similar! Let's get to it!

Episode 10 continues with Cecilia finishing her welcome speech and and the girls listening to what Headmaster Montgomery has to say. Meanwhile, behind them, the ginger girl we saw in some panels in the previous episode - Karen - is getting ready to mess everything up.

If you look back at Episode 09, she's right there when Karta invites Bailey for a coffee.

And Karen being Karen, she doesn't really need more than this to feel jealous and ready for something unpleasant. She starts reciting a spell, which is actually a pretty popular nursery rhyme, the itsy-bitsy spider and the children's game, Cat's Cradle. Nursery rhymes always made me bored and sleepy when I was little, so I thought they would be the perfect match for a sleeping-spell., while Cat's Cradle was one of my favourite games to play with friends, the patterns you can make are just mesmerizing to me. I only recently found out that it's actually possible to play it alone. O.o

The brush i used on the panel where we see Karen's magic-spider do her bidding is actually one of my favourites:

It is essentially a bunch of brush strokes with a rainbow gradient on it, so not something that could not be done manually, but it's a nice shortcut and has just the right mount of strokes. A prism effect always looks cool and if you change up the hue and/or add another layer that is slightly blurred, your panel is sure to be eye-catching. River figures that someone's messing with Karta, and when she turns around we get the first full shot of Karen, where she's actually wearing my old brown boots from Deichmann lol 

 Also, you can find the brush for the small prism droplets here. The background is just standard brushes tho.

River goes into protective mama-bear mode and lights the Cat's Cradle on fire. (hell yeah, I was legit PUMPED to draw this panel)

And then Karen's best (and only) friend, Nia quickly gets between the two and apologizes on Karen's behalf. 

Karta wakes up, although still feels a bit dizzy, and the headmaster calls all new students to the stage for the Gem Trial! River gives us a half-assed explanation on what gems are, but we'd probably know more if it was Kelpie sitting there. :D Nevertheless, Karta is just happy to get something pretty and shiny, so she gets in line. River shouts "hey weirdo" after her, which turnsnot only our pink baby's head, but someone else's too, just to wish her good luck with the trial, and with that, we say goodbye to them until the next episode.

Ps.: Fun Fact - I was very late with the coloring for this episode - because my time-management SUCKS - and had to do it in two days before uploading, working on it from morning til evening. My hand was not happy lol
