I don't blame either them for being shaken up for their respective reasons, but considering the Mandy Arc has gone on for less than a week in-universe, I'd hope they could overcome this. That's what I've wanted to see most when it started, to see them overcome obstacles together and it's rough for now but they're brought even closer and are better off for it, like...partners. From the textless WIP, I kinda hoped that first panel would be Vanessa reacting to the newly-dubbed Alex's (gonna have to get used to that) recording of confronting Mandy and yelling something suggesting that if she ever sees Mandy again, Hell will follow in her footsteps >:3 As nice as the side-by-side and handholding in panel 2 is, I can see the emotional burnout and can only imagine what they must be feeling. I had a feeling of what was they might be talking about. Alex had been through more than she has and she said herself she can see it in his eyes, and now he's still worried about her. Vanessa in particular may have a lot of unresolved anger: More than mad at Mandy, mad at Alex that he didn't tell her what was going on even after he committed to taking action, and mad at herself for knowing something was really wrong but letting it get to this point and mad at herself that risking sex at work was her idea in the first place (even if a pretty terrible person took advantage of them for it) while her lover paid her share of the consequences. As for what now? Well, I hope she has him move in and help him find a job and help with his parents. I know he said that Mandy has way more to lose than he and Vanessa do, but he still kept Vanessa from taking a hit (and was pretty clear with Mandy that she would get worse if she went after her). I'd love to see her come to his aid now. Side note, story aside, even the visuals are just great. They look like I'd expect them to look after all they've been through, the cuddle + handholding was already a relief to see even before the text was added, and the lighting compliments the "very tired and what comes tomorrow is a mystery but it's okay now" atmosphere. However it goes, I hope they both know that what they need most is each other. And, last bit of hopeful thinking: Alex, especially, has gone through a lot, and however she feels, it looks like Vanessa knows that he needs her more than ever.
