Philippians 2:12 says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. I love how yall brought up Matthew 25 where Christ will judge the nations by how either they “knew Christ” or didn’t. The key for me in discussing denominations and things like that is the motive of the heart. Now I obviously am apart of a denomination as a believer but I’m fully aware that it is the Holy Spirit who reveals Christ. He is mysterious in His ways and so as long as a person responds to the drawing of the Father through the Holy Spirit, then I believe I’ll see them in heaven, no matter what denominational title they hold too. That’s my hope.

Jedidiah Richardson

Firstly, we love you guys!! About the Mary question, I was raised Irish Catholic. I think that priest misspoke. God is everywhere always. He’s not human, so he’s never too busy. Mary is supposed to lead you to a closer relationship with Christ. For instance, I didn’t really have a mother that was able to be there for me, so I became very close to Mary, but never in a worshipping way. She gave me comfort and I was able to have a better relationship with Christ in the process, in a time where I felt very alone as a child and helpless. She’s supposed to help anything blocking your relationship with Christ and help strengthen your bond and trust in him. I hope that makes sense haha sometimes things sound right in my head but when I say them, they don’t make sense 😂💕

Kathryn Rossi

This is the type of episode I like. I like hearing more about religion and theology. I believe and have faith. I just don’t know where to begin to learn about all of this

Frickeeeeee

Whew, someone figured it out,..... I trust you have the proof so I won't even disrespect you by asking about that. LMAO. The Bible clearly tells that Earth is not a round globe like we were taught our entire lives, and the Earth DOES NOT rotate around the Sun at all. Just like the Book says, once again, The Sun and Moon move across the Earth to signal the day/night and seasons.

Ezekeil'90

earth is not flat, not moving. Love the show

Christopher Staticdriver

This episode was incredible! I am non-denominational and have had a hard time finding a church because every place I’ve tried just seems so fake and greedy but my belief in God has never been stronger even though I feel like such an outsider. But since not being apart of a church I now pray more than I have ever before and I even just talk to God more. I do feel a little off though because I was raised on you HAVE to go or be apart of church every Sunday. I love these conversations yall have!

Sarah Rodriguez

Best episode!

Justin Croft

As an atheist, This was a fantastic episode! I always appreciate listening to yall talk about your religion because I learn so much and start to understand why people fallow God

Yule Hodget

The thing that's missing is humility, adherence, and obedience, but from the heart. Not just going through the motions.

Y. Shaffer

There are laws in the old testament that aren't followed, but are just as relevant. Like dietary laws and Sabbath laws. Why is that?

Y. Shaffer

Love you guys!! Switched from watching on YouTube for forever to Patreon and it’s amazing!

Here is a in depth explanation adding to what I shared about the Creed and the addition of the Filioque which is objected by the the Orthodox Church. https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/defending-the-filioque

Jonathan Geiger

Which the term Filioque was added for clarity in the time of the Arian heresy due to the false doctrine that it proposed.

Jonathan Geiger

Here is a link that explains the Marian doctrine that you are wanting clarity from Catholic Answers. https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/the-biblical-roots-of-the-marian-doctrines

Jonathan Geiger

This was added because the fact of the Arian heresy which was prominent in the time period and was trying to be defeated by the Orthodox teachings the Church in the 6th century. The Arian heresy was that Jesus's God was the Father and that Jesus was our God and that the Holy Spirit wasn't a part of that. That is why they added the Filioque. Due the fact of the Trinitarian doctrine that the love of the Father and the love of the Son after Jesus's Ascension into heaven the Holy Spirit proceeded to Earth at Pentecost. Which in eternity the Father of the Son and the Holy Spirit already existed and had partially existed in our reality in some of the Holy people of the Old Testament and some in the Gospels. Like Simeon and Anna that were present when Christ was presented in the temple after the 40-day period of the purification.

Jonathan Geiger

The Filioque a Latin term meaning "and from the Son", was added to the original Nicene Creed, and has been the subject of great controversy between Eastern and Western Christianity. The term refers to the Son, Jesus Christ, with the Father, as the one shared origin of the Holy Spirit.

Jonathan Geiger

You guys should really check out Micah Turnbo and Dan Duval or anything on the deep end podcast. I've been following those 2 for years now and they've really shown me how to dig deeper into sonship and stewarding God's power through Jesus and stepping into the spirit.

Really good episode with a lot of great faith based questions. I personally went to Catholic Sunday school as a child but with my childish mind went through the motions of "schooling" counting minutes until I could go home and watch cartoons, play with toys, etc.. When I was a bit older I got baptized as a Catholic and that still sits a bit off for me because again I had that child brain and truly didn't understand what was going on or what I was professing. Putting my own deceitful heart and mind aside the very early church which fractured in the great schism all held the same beliefs handed down from Apostolic succession and for the most part all believe a great many things that most denominations do not today. Jesus sent the Apostles into the world to build His church under the power of His Holy Spirit and I now have a lot of faith in those ancient teachings. When I grew up and started questioning religion I found myself going to a Methodist church for years, later a First Baptist, but am now looking to rejoin either to the Catholic or Orthodox church. I'm still learning from the scriptures but here is what I glean from scriptures that Josh said he was struggling with. Infant baptism was widely practiced and accepted by the early church and those in apostolic succession. A few scriptures that stick out in my mind is Mat 18:3 and Mat 19:14 where Jesus says unless we be converted, and become like little children and again where He told His follows Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. I listened to a great lesson awhile ago and I wish I took notes and studied it well but it taught about the innocence of children and how if they parish they will find themselves in heaven without baptism, confessing, etc.. The Mary dogmas and intercession of Saints I also wrestled with at first but there are some great teachers out there who can walk you through scriptures that might not out right say this is how it is but most definitely support them. Remember that Mary was quite active with the apostles and the early church and all of these early church fathers all taught and believed these doctrines. When Jesus died it isn't like the new testament came down out of the heavens into the hands of Christians of that time. Most of what they were taught was by word of mouth, then by letters and some ancient writings like the Didache, and the gospels that followed. Important scriptures to remember about the intercession of saints would be those of us praying and making intercession for one another, the prayers of righteous men availeth much. James 5:16, those in the afterlife being aware of what is transpiring on earth, them living without their sinful bodies, going to church in heaven, etc. Believers don't stop praying for those who have past and each other so why would we believe that those on the other side would cease praying for us? Being that a lot of passages talks about receiving the Holy Spirit through baptism and the kingdom of God belonging to children I personally can't argue child baptism. Confession of faith can come later in life when one grows to know and to love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The last verse I want to touch on is the Lord Lord one because that one scared me a lot in my earlier years and still does but I believe I understand it better now. Now this in not going to be a popular take but the one thing that wasn't mentioned from that verse is that Jesus was addressing the Lawless ones, those that work iniquity. Scripture teaches us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It can be shown that Jesus is Yahuah or the God who interacted with His people of the old testament. He is a God of covenants, He gives commandments, and punishes those who do not keep His words. Jesus tells people over and over and over again those who hear His words and keeps them will be bless and those who don't will be punished. While we were yet sinners God purchased and redeemed us with His free gift of grace that none of us earned. That I'm sure all of us can agree on. It is only just recently that I have been taught and now believe that He holds out the free gift and says it yours but you need to follow Me. Lord is a title like King and if the King decrees you need to do x, y, and z and you don't, you will not find favor with that king if you are not out right executed. Everything Jesus commands us to do it right and pure and for our best interest in all things and we should be excited to follow our God, Heavenly Father, and Maker. Problem is our flesh and the sorceries of this world bewitch our flesh into turning from our Father. He is good, kind, loving, and patient willing to forgive beyond measure, but scripture will also tell us that the Holy Spirit will not be grieved and people who don't repent will eventually be turned over to a reprobate mind where they will revel in their sinful desires. He doesn't want any to parish, paid for all sins, and is fully willing and able to save all of His children if they will only her His voice, turn from their wickedness, and follow Him. Some Christians have been taught to take a few passages out of context and read them to believe that we are saved through faith and not through works but I believe these are antichrist teachings because Jesus all throughout the old testament, prophets, Jesus's teachings Himself, the apostles letters, and the early church failure to do what Jesus ( who is our new Torah ) will result in one being lawless just like that parable states and while these individuals "believe" and love "Jesus" that false doctrines created in their minds, they will do a great many things in His name but fail to keep the covenant vows of Doing His will and will find themselves on that terrible day separated from Him. Now I am no theologian, student, teacher, etc. of the Word of God, the faith, or His Church so take everything I'm saying as just food for thought and study them out. I would lean heavily on the early church and church fathers who were the earliest in apostolic succession whos knowledge of the scriptures without the tools we have today is awe inspiring. They were closest to the source which is Christ, were filled with His Holy Spirit, and many of them died martyrs of the church. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and He promised to be with them as they went out into the world. I believe the early church was founded by the Holy Spirit but just like the parable of the wheat and tares Satan went out afterwards and began to sow as well. Just as he told Eve thou shalt not surely die I believe he whispers into the ears of those who will listen you are saved by faith alone even though we are taught differently all throughout the old testament, early church, and Jesus telling us over and over and over again to keep His Words and do His commandments ( Jesus's new Torah found in the gospels ). Are hearts should be burning for Jesus and He knows our short comings and knows we will stumble and fall for we are still in our flesh. That is why He gave us the Eucharist, confession, and other tools gifted to His church for the forgiveness of sins. May God bless and have mercy on us all. Amen.

If you are really interested in Eastern Orthodoxy, you should visit your local parish and talk to a priest! Attend Divine Liturgy. You can read a lot about Orthodoxy, but you also have to experience it!

Jaden Arrow

I work for a messianic Jewish congregation and it is fascinating! Super unique and just really cool ways of connecting the Old Testament and Jewish traditions and the new covenant (aka New Testament)

ingrid ross

This episode was so good!!!! There is nothing better than just sitting around talking about Jesus! And I keep going back and checking on the red heifer and the third temple. Also, I would love to hear your thoughts on this “mahdi” that has been popping up on social media.

I’m telling you, Josh, check out Reformed theology! Andrew has the right inclinations. Check out the Reformation and the writings of the Reformers and the Puritans. They will answer all of your questions and gut instincts about why Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy don’t seem quite right. And since you seem to believe in believer’s baptism and not infant baptism, check out the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (aka “the 1689”). It is the most biblically and doctrinally sound confession for those who believe in believer’s baptism. It won’t return void!

Jeremy Swartz

The 1689 is where it’s at!

I’m here for the theology talk! Great discussion gang!!! Soli Deo Gloria Dolphins!!!

Jeremy Hogue

This is what comes to mind for me (raised Mormon, left at 36 years old, and have been charismatic/pentecostal for 12+ years): In John 17 Jesus talked with the Father about how Jesus gave the disciples ALL the glory the Father had given Jesus, so the world would know that they’re loved by the Father as much as the Father loves Jesus. “By this will all men know you are My disciples: if you love one another.” And lastly: “by their fruits you will know them.” God did not say we should judge anyone by their practices or beliefs. He told us that the world will know us by our love, by the way we put on display the character of God to the world, and by the fruit we produce. I ❤️❤️❤️ the theological discussions, guys. Keep exploring!!!

I love this discussion! Definitely wouldn't mind seeing more pow wows about the Christ and getting closer to him

If you want no frills Protestant Christianity, drive over to Sandford and visit St.Andrews Chapel, a PCA body. We have not had a PCA church in our location for 6 yrs, and still believe it's the most amazing church polity, theology, and liturgy we've encountered in 37yrs of marriage; Faithful to Scripture, and doctrinally sound. RC & EO are Mary-worshipping, tradition-of-man exalting, icon/idol venerating, false sects of the orthodox Christianity of the Apostles. They both err because they elevating Traditions of Men above sacred Scripture.

I'm from Canada, but the minute I heard Trump tell a group of Christians "I love you Christians I'm not a Christian but I love you. Vote for me and you'll never have to vote again." I new the world was going to go through something massive. We just had our WEF globalist inserted here in Canada. Whatever is going on is a global agenda, and sadly there is nowhere to go to hide from it. We need to keep our faith and fire for Christ alive now more than ever.

Cas

What a good suggestion!

Cas

Josh hit on my biggest fear "depart from me I never knew you." This episode was so great. I was raised in the catholic church and have come back to faith over the last decade. I have never gone back to the church as I never understood why I needed to complete all these rituals to be worthy of confession, forgiveness, the eucharist etc. I have been trying to find out what is right, and ultimately have come to the conclusion Andy presented; things are so over complicated. I talk to God when I need to and want to, I confess my failings directly to Him, not through a priest or some conduit. I question, I struggle, I fight, I fail, but ultimately I always come back directly to the Lord. There is a lot of truth to the church ritualistic behavior being rooted in old paganism. Christmas, Easter etc. It's was alarming to learn but only confirmed the corruption and over complications the Church puts on a relationship with our Lord.

Cas

Why was the gong moving in the background at 35:16 when Lilly was talking????😳🤔

Salvation comes then baptism in water happens as an outward showing confession of faith to the public. Baptism is not essential to faith but Jesus did it. I’m with Andrew “almost” Calvinist . Predestination is all over the Bible. Remember do not take away from the Word. John 6:65, Roman’s 8:29, Ephesians 1:5, & many more. On baptism Mk10:39, Matt28:19. I attend a Baptist church and lean more to London Baptist confession of faith :)

Danielle Finlay

Such a good point to compare the two lists in the NT about what folks did for Christ - I’ve never realized that before. One is self gratification and the other is quietly serving others. Imitate Jesus - love love love that.

Patty Davis

Every professing believer has been baptized with the Spirit. Water baptism is an outward showing of that internal change. Water baptism is also associated with church membership (coming alongside a believer)

I just want to say that first off you guys and gal are hilarious all the time! I love the conspiracy/aliens/Bigfoot conversations. However, these conversations are what got me into your podcast from the beginning and I learn so much about Jesus and our faith every time you guys have these conversations. You guys have made a tremendous impact on my walk with Christ and I could not be more thankful for that. You are all so real and honest about your faith and speak openly about it and the world needs more of that than ever before. Keep up the great work and never apologize for sharing your faith on this platform.

The thief on the cross was not baptized and Jesus told him he would be with him in paradise

Becca

I grew up Lutheran and was baptized as a small child. My parents’ choice not mine. As an adult I choice to be baptized and gave my testimony. I feel like baptism and our choice to follow Christ had to based on our own discernment and relationship with Christ.

22:48 this is 'Sola Scriptura' which Orthodoxy oddly refutes.

I love these theological chats! While I do love the silliness and thoughts on things affecting the world and our emotions, I always enjoy the conversations more about Jesus. So fun hearing more of yalls personal takes and experiences

Baptism has nothing to do with salvation. What matters is if you are baptized in the holy spirit! The water Baptism is a public honor of your faith

NINJAS ATTACK!!! Favorite part of the intro 🤣

Samuel Clay

Check out prevenient grace when it comes to infant baptism / baby passing away and going to Heaven. I’m a member of the Church of the Nazarene, and part of our theological belief is that there is a grace that goes before we’re saved (prevenient grace), it’s like the wooing of the Holy Spirit to come to Jesus.

Love the episode!! Ever since you guys brought up orthodox, I’ve been really diving into it . I love the basic theology of everything, but I really can’t get on board with the praying to Saints. Please keep us updated on what your further research brings!

There is a monk named Father Seraphim. Look him up on YouTube. He sings. Look up "Father Seraphime lords prayer in Aramaic sings to pope" It brings me to tears every time I hear it. I don't think it's the same father Seraphim? This man is younger, but he is Orthodox, I believe. He was singing in Georgia (isn't the Russia or near Russia?) In a monastery

Also this was a great way to start my day. I’m going to try my best to be the light for those around me and show Jesus through my actions.

In no way am I saying some charismatics aren't saved. Like every group, some are and some aren't. But alot of people are confused, and some are flat out deceiving people for personal gain.

Logan Willis

Charismatic movement is just emotionalism.... sound doctrine is what people need; not the adrenaline rush you can get at a concert, sporting event, etc.

Logan Willis

I loved this❤️ man I wish I could just have a full on conversation with you guys about Christ 😊

Sabrina Guido

If you don’t think your god can handle your prayers or needs help hearing them then he is not the One True God! My God doesn’t have hang ups or limitations. He is all powerful, all mighty and all knowing. I don’t want to be able to explain how or why He does what He can do! Thank you Jesus!

Brent Campbell

Baptism is an outward expression of your inward faith. Baptism isn’t a requirement because we are baptized by fire when we receive the Holy Spirit. The biggest argument for this is the thief on the cross. Or death bed conversion. Baptism is a wonderful thing but won’t keep you out of heaven if you don’t complete that step.

Sarah Spencer

Thats what I believe too Josh

Logan Willis

The blood of Jesus Christ saves!! Not the water!! If you wanna get baptized go get baptized. But the only requirement to salvation is believing that Christ died for our sin, and was raised aqain the third day according to the scriptures! That belief will produce the good works.

Logan Willis

The god of Islam is literally Satan. Look into the book “The Islamic Antichrist”. It’s eye opening.

Sarah Spencer

Andy in the early parts of Acts, before they killed Stephen they didn't have the choice to keep there money.. God smote them because they were still under the kingdom gospel. Which part of that was to sell all you had(commanded.) . It would basically be a perfect form socialism. All belongings were to be given to the apostles and they would distribute as needed. Obviously after the killing of Stephen and the conversion of Paul, God kind of changes course by going to the gentiles with the good news that they could be saved now without becoming a Jew or blessing Israel!
