Fortnightly Progress - 30th April
Added 2025-04-30 17:57:10 +0000 UTCThank you to everyone who was very, very nice and understanding in regard to the 'So it's 2025 then'. That was very much appreciated.
Took a bit of time off, and was able to go and see my parents for a couple of days which was helpful to the whole mentals.
Main thing I could do with some feedback on is the streams.
Something I'm struggling with is I'm trying to work out what exactly I want to do on them. I don't want to write creatively during streaming to create new assignments and the like, as that's not something that needs an audience, and I fear it would block me to an unreal degree. I don't want to do stuff that takes too much full on hard think-y problem solving, as that makes the being in front of an audience much harder than it already is, even if that audience is just typing in chat. I think why I was having so much issues with the Encampment Roles conversion, which is still not entirely done, was due to the hours I was just staring at it in stream and trying to untangle the mess in front of me.
Testing No Haven is painful enough already, as constantly going through the starting No Haven process multiple times during one stream super quickly gets old, as it's so long, so repetitive, especially as if I'm doing testing I usually can't just hit Quick Start, and even that's not exactly quick, and man, I appreciate doing testing in Streets so much in comparison where it's a single click, and you're into the game.
Thing is I also don't want to do grunt busy make work either. I remember the 6-9 months of streams, might have been more, where I was just identing the converted Rags to Twine code, and yeah, looking back, while sure it was super helpful in some parts with helping visualise a lot of broken condition logic from how I'd done the conversion, I do still feel like I was properly taking the wotsits, and just doing it to fill time. I probably could have just done it on a case by case basis, and worse I think some of what I did on those streams actually make it less usable to understand and work with which then resulted in me needing to do the second re-conversion work I did last year.
My rough idea is to start tackling the end of night formatting issues maybe? As perhaps that's not that hard to work out while also something that's going to take ages as well due to how silly complex the number of things that are working to put together that Finish Day stuff.
Any thoughts on what to do about that or ideas for quality of life things that would be straight forward to build off the existing mechanics that could be done on stream would be much appreciated.
I'm going to try and stream this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday either way, and I do have a decent number of new videos for the streams. Current thinking is I'll hold them until there's a reasonable people in the stream, and then play them as a block.
My initial plan for this month had been to do a quick second release for Streets to fix some of the initial pain points. One of which is the UI and I was able to work out a way to much improve upon the visual feedback in regard to Improve and Increasing earnings. Looks neat, hell I think it looks better, and gives more useful feedback than the game that inspired Streets had by a significant degree. It's also optional if you prefer the original cleaner look with just the earnings under each card. There's also a fair bit more dialogue to reflect the different collectors who you'll be dealing with as there was some confusion that they represented your character.
Then I got ideas.
Neat ideas I think, also some them are based on the lovely feedback I got based on the first release, and also good learning experience ideas as working out how to implement them took a lot of figuring out which I had no clue about how to do before, and which may well be very useful for No Haven in future.
So when that's out, which is likely to be the thing you'll see next, there's going to be some new supporting skeletons for stuff that I can build off and expand upon.
In regard to commissions it was a proper landslide, like no point doing the spreadsheet landslide, as you lot really liked The Sissy Farm pitch. Will be sorting that out soonish. Then the commission poll going back to single characters will be back sometime next week.
As for the outstanding ones
November - Rouged Rogue : Basically done. She's looking great, and you'll be very likely be seeing this very soon indeed.
November + December - Pillar of the Community : I've seen two sketches. It's a challenging pose and the artist is working to come up with something they like. Need to get back to them when I've worked out what I'm going to say in regard to helping them with that.
November + December - To Bind Justice : Seen some sketches and we've agreed on the pose for it.
Appreciate you taking the time to read this, and there will be another of these in a fortnight, and the next fortnight, and well you get the idea!
