Fortnightly Progress - 16th February

Been way too long since I've done a proper one of these.

Okay so the straw that broke the came's back was my eye appointment getting cancelled on me at the beginning of Jan. It didn't quite lead to me sitting naked in a coffee shop but it wasn't far off. That's not going to be until the end of this month now, the new appointment not the public nudity, and while I think the eyes are a lot better than they were, actual confirmation would be wonderful. Being able to wear contact lenses again even more so.

As part of my freaking out I got it into my head that words didn't mean a lot at that point and that only actions mattered. Hence the whole going entirely silent until the update was done.  Well aware that was certainly not the sensible way to handle things. Not helped as it turned out there was way more to do than I thought and a lot of what I had done was an absolute typo minefield and/or just didn't work when testing. Looking back, and not being quite so mired in denial and anxiety, my eyes were already buggered all the way back from early September, and then got even worse in October and November.

Very much looking forward to the appointment where, touch wood, I can put this behind me and at last have a good year. The last couple have been increasingly bad since the start of that whole pandemic thing really did a number on me so I really need an upswing here, and for that I need to be so much better than I have been.

The update got done!

Had some really nice feedback on the Involuntary Membership Assignment so I'm very pleased that went over well.

I'm going to be way more strict on myself with the hotfix period going forward. They've had a tendency to bloat, and stretch on and on and on. That means I'm not working on new content which sucks for me, sucks for patrons who I have commitments for, and just generally sucks for everyone in general.

So new plan is first hotfix 7-10 days after release and no longer. That should be more than enough time to have bugs collected and fix them. Then after that first hotfix give it another 7-10 days, if hotfix is broken enough do another one, and give it another 7-10 days, if not public release with the first hotfix version, and onto the next update. I'll also aim to do a max of two hotfixes barring emergency oh man this is seriously broken and needs to be sorted asap ones to ensure that each update has a definite end of 20 days as the limit after a release before I
have to move on, and any remaining bugs can be picked up in the next update.

As for content coming in 0.99 and 1.00 I'm did a Direction Polling yesterday which went into disussing that. If you're not on those tiers I did the text of the post as a twitlonger on the twitter.

• The No Haven Conversion / Picarto Streams

Managed to fix the issue with the telly I use as a second monitor that I discovered just before the stream on new year's eve. Ended up needing to stream a second screen to my laptop which was rather awkward, so glad that's sorted.

Despite being convinced I'd fixed that bug with quick start while away on my laptop while getting blitzed and watching christmas telly with my family it cropped up once again as soon as I got home. It's random in the extreme which makes it all the harder to catch as I got twenty in a row that worked fine on the laptop so that's rather annoying.

Trying to fix it on stream has proven to be rather miserable and frustrating to the extreme so what I'm going to do is after the first hotfix is out is take some time to nail that git for good. Once that's done I'll start the streams up again. Those will also include the extra Sunday streams again for the length of the work on 0.99 as mentioned in the Direction Polling. Don't want to put a specific day on it as I've proven to be terrible on that but let's say not next week but the week after maybe?

• Commissions

January+February - They Choose You : They Choose You still hasn't been started yet as it gets one for it's one year anniversary... I managed to pin the artist down and they're now saying it should be done by end of Feb. They also said that they should get a sketch to me by end of next week.

May+June - Laughing Trickster Priestess : Laughing Trickster seems confirmed as the artist has said they love the idea and asked me to wait a month. Though it's now been quite a few months since that, but they do still seem to be up for doing it and they're an artist who has always delivered the quality in the end.

July+August - Dominance Training : At last this one is finally moving. Now up to the base colours on the first part.

September+October - The Shorty Set (Desert Neko and Kobolds) / November - Lich  : Been reaching out to artists today and already got a positive response to the desert neko pitch. The Lich beat the Changling by a single vote btw.

Due to being behind I decided to combine the outstanding commission polls. I also did the full text as that one as a twitlonger too if you want to see what's up with that.

As for how the poll is going after a couple of days:

That's Ripe for Exploitation + Land Piracy + Caravan Raid Aftermath waaaay out in front, however for this one the second place which is a lot closer will also all get commissions, and the third place one will get it's Alternate pick done. So currently that's Beneath their Notice + Storm Rider and also Banshee from the third place.
