Discord Assignment the 2nd: Week 4
Added 2019-07-09 11:49:59 +0000 UTCAfter two weeks there's been a grand total of 13 suggestions from the Discord. There will be an initial round of voting to reduce the number down to a smaller selection of finalists that will then be decided on next week.
Hard Work
A desperate servant is stuck in the service of a cruel boss and they look for your help to get them out of this mess! Do you aid them and get rid of their employer or betray them and get a lovely servant of your own? Perhaps even a third option?
(My note: Some of these titles were suggested by the patron who helped put this all together so consider them placeholders for now.)
A paladin, a whorelock and a psion walk into a tavern...
They have a problem. A problem they need solved, and fast. They need someone who can fix it, someone who is not afraid to break/bend/rewrite the rules. They need you.
They've been cursed you see. Or so they claim at least. Something happened to them at a party in Aversol recently, And they've been unable to leave the others, as much as they have tried. And they feel a pull. A yearning. They need to delve into the ever forest. Deep within. It calls them. They know that danger lurks there. But also treasure. Lots and lots of treasure. And More. But they also somehow know that if they go there, they won't come back.
As you sit and watch them over the course of the evening, listening to their squabble, they each come to you. Alone. They've heard of you. Your renown. Your skills. The skills of Your people. They each make you an offer. Each have a plan. A plan to ensure that they come out the other side free of these compulsions. But one thing is certain.
The other two won't like the plan you pick.
(My note: Probably needs a bit of re-flavouring due to how much you need to operate in secret and even a paladin being forced to worked with a whorelock would likely spell a very definitive end for your slaving career.)
Quicker than you Like
Having had some experiences with the barons races, you catch upon an idea, the participants are all trussed up and half broken, if you're careful, you can snag a couple and be gone before anyone knows. It does mean that you need someone to participate and be near the lead so your tracking item they swallowed let's you know the route, but hey, what's life without risks? You just gotta be able to snag your slaver(Or trust your slavers to snag you...) and whichever passing participants seem pretty. And, of course, not get caught.
Requires C:En or M:Ar, or gold to hire a freelancer, due to the magic bondage.
(My note: Oh boy, fucking with the Baron. That's going to go super well for all concerned :D )
Living Ties
There’s a bimbo ooze tie merchant who sells over-enthusiastic minor slimes that she carefully raised and curated into vaguely tie-shaped forms.
(My note: Another one that needs some re-flavouring as minor slimes aren't a thing. I'm sure I could work out something though to preserve the general theme of the idea.)
Bound in Service
A Geas has been placed on a powerful and beautiful being. Do you steal the magically bound slave for your own? Free the slave as a potent ally? Or maybe assist in whatever nefarious purpose those who bound the slave intend?
Meeting Their Match
Persons and/or groups have been searching for someone to best them with the goal of proving they are the best. Many tried, many have already failed and what happens to the failures is unclear. Roaming from village to town to city, they offer themselves as reward for the contest of their lives.
Not all of them are made for fighting though, some are more inclined to lose once they find a proper master to lose to. Some contests are about combat, sure, but some are contests of skill or craft.
Why do they do it? Where did they all came from? What is causing this cultish behavior? Will you offer your best to the test? When they lose will they suffer for it, be delayed but learn a thing or two, or will they disappear entirely into the mists…
(My note: Mists are very much thematically tied with a certain planned race.)
Eastern Knots
Did you hear about the new craze that's going around in Aversol this Debutante season? This latest rite of passage hails from the lands of Cathay and involves a lot of rope. But it needs more than that. It also needs someone to use the rope. And there is now sport in getting more and more talented people to do this. So far these rope workers have all been on the level, as it's a very lucrative gig, but what if someone was to delay the worker and take their place? That person would be in a prime position to earn some crazy money. Of course.... that's not the only option.....
And yet She lingers
Certain occupational hazards exist when exploring old ruins and mysterious temples. Sure, you've heard about all the usual deadly traps, but there's whispers of an ancient, secret treasure trove with a more unique twist. Suffice to say that many of those who explore the tomb of this long-forgotten whorelock (or whomever else built this place, but let's face it, it was probably a whorelock) remain magically bound to the location, teased and punished for years or centuries for their impertinence.
Obviously, you'll be careful when you bring a raiding party to dig up some valuables. But now that you think about it, some of those former adventurers -- at the mercy of such a location for so long -- may prove to be a greater prize, if you manage to steal one…
(My note: I'd change this to a former lair rather than tomb but I think that still works for the idea that something has kept her lingering after it should have been long abandoned for much longer than expected.)
Thicker than Water
The life of a slave-taking outlaw leaves something to be desired when it comes to long-term relationships, especially outside of the encampment. It's rare enough so that being well-connected is a notable trait.
Of course, that's only problematic with the really cutthroat bands. Lots of people are perfectly civil with each other, and among the law-abiding population there are certain cultural norms.
You've gotten word from two rivals who are nonetheless connected. Maybe they're a couple of forest goblins who swore an oath with each other before falling out. Maybe they're two drow nobles who also happen to be sisters. Regardless, they've been at it tooth and nail for years, trying to wrest control of [something] from the other. Despite all the bad blood, though, they really don't want the other to get hurt. Maybe they just feel guilty ordering a slaver to go carry off someone that they used to be close to.
You haven't been called in to enslave one of them. No, these two rivals have contacted you...for mediation. They really don't like each other but the idea of more fighting really does not appeal to them either. Somehow, you've got to figure out a way to have fun with them...oh, and try and get them talking to each other again, alright? With a storyline like this, even a bandit like yourself feels a tiny bit of respect for the Ties That Bind.
Curious of Her Slaves
The idea of enslaving a ooze has long been a stumper in your profession, oh sure, there's been a few cases, but all those were very specific circumstances. Such as one case where they enslaved an Elf that an ooze was desperately in love with, and she agreed to join her, or another using powerful hypnosis and aren't at all reliable. The first person who can sell slave-oozes is going to make a fortune, and even just helping with that research can be lucrative.
Now you've heard tale of a ooze who keeps a few pets and delights in binding and tying them up, watching them writhe helplessly against their bindings gives her no greater joy, nothing too odd there. But what has your interest is that lately has grown very curious as to what that's like, and she wishes to experience that feeling of helplessness, if only for a little while. While the odds of you actually making a slave of this ooze are similar to the entire Neko race taking a vow of chastity, a voluntary subject to experiment on can provide invaluable information, and if you can make a good enough effort to temporarily bind her and impress this Switch of an ooze, you may even convince her to join you.
(My note: Will have to have an alternate intro for this later for when you do manage to work it out. Do plan to have that as a possibility later along with some of the other unslaveable races. Not a problem though as I can always come back and add one.)
The Abyss’ Call
There are many reasons why a capable summoner would bring a succubus from the abyss to this realm of existence. Perhaps they'd need an expert slavebreaker or a skilled whorelock to help them with a specific task, or perhaps they'd merely wish for the pleasures of the flesh succubi tend to be so naturally gifted at. Sometimes such a summoning is permanent, but in many other cases the demon's ties to the abyss will pull them back inexorably, sooner or later. Recently, word has reached your camp of one such succubus who had been summoned for a task, but for reasons you don't quite grasp has managed to elude her home-realm's grasp for much longer than most, and she isn't planning to go back anytime soon. Why she was summoned, what happened to the summoner and for which reasons she wants to enjoy reality are all things you don't know, but perhaps there is an opportunity to bind, free or even banish her here?
(My note: I'm thinking this could add magic: summoner as one of the rewards as it would tie in nicely to an aspect I have planned for next update.)
Stockings and Bows
A new trend of bows on the front of stockings is sweeping the City of Aversol. Are these ties-that-bind just a harmless frivolity or could they have more sinister connotations.
Aid at a Cost
On a random scouting mission someone approached your scout with a proposition... They offered help for your encampment but "everything comes with a price". A new assignment appears with options to accept various forms of assistance (money, luck, unique slaver/player-character joining etc.) and upon competent completion, the origin of your benefits checks in from time to time on their investment. For every interaction is a bond, and every bond is a Tie that Binds. Failing their expectations can be devastating.
